For the 2026 provincial election, the BC Community Forest Association is asking provincial parties and candidates to support two priorities for the future of community forestry in B.C.

Expand the Community Forest Program while protecting the policies that keep existing community forests viable.
Provide stable, long-term funding for proactive wildfire prevention and resilience.

These commitments can help support locally led forest stewardship, rural and First Nations communities, and stronger wildfire resilience across B.C.

Indicator #4 from our 2026 Indicators Report highlights the funds leveraged by community forests across the province.

This indicator shows how community forest contributions can serve as seed funding to attract additional investment in recreation, wildfire mitigation, health, habitat, arts, culture, and other community projects. More than $8.9 million was leveraged from outside sources during the reporting year.

On September 21st, during National Forestry Week, Logan Lake Community Forest welcomed community members to its Annual Open House!

Thank you to everyone who took the time to stop by, connect with the team, ask questions, and learn more about the work happening within the Community Forest.

The Annual Open House is an important opportunity to connect directly with the community, share information about current and upcoming projects, and hear from the people who live, work and recreate in and around the communities of the Logan Lake area.

Across B.C., 62 operating community forests are demonstrating what locally led forest management can deliver.

More than half are held directly by First Nations or through partnerships, and in 2025, 37 reporting community forests generated more than $129 million in economic activity while investing in their forests and communities.

As the provincial election approaches, we encourage British Columbians to learn more about community forestry and the role it can play in the future of forestry in B.C.

As British Columbians prepare to head to the polls for the provincial election, the BC Community Forest Association is asking provincial parties and candidates to support the future of community forestry in B.C.

Community forests support locally led forest stewardship, local jobs, economic opportunities, wildfire resilience, and reinvestment in communities. More than half are held directly by First Nations or through partnerships, creating tangible opportunities for collaboration.

We encourage our members to connect with candidates in their communities and help put community forestry on the election agenda.

Indicator #1 from our 2026 Indicators Report highlights local employment and the number of jobs created through community forestry.

This indicator measures employment generated by community forests through forestry, logging, support services, milling, trail building, wildfire response, research, and other activities. During the reporting year, 1,833 people derived all or part of their income from participating community forests, reflecting the broad range of employment generated through the community forest model.

What a great few days at the 2026 Woodlots BC Conference & AGM in Parksville!

The BC Community Forest Association was pleased to take part, connecting with woodlot licensees, forestry professionals, and others from across B.C. to share perspectives, learn from one another, and spend some time out in the forest.

BCCFA Executive Director Jennifer Gunter participated in a tour exploring coastal forestry and community recreation within the Snaw-naw-as, Qualicum, and Snuneymuxw First Nations territories. The tour highlighted private forest management, commercial thinning, community relationships, and how woodlot operators are navigating recreational use on the land. Along with a day of learning from conference speakers, the tour offered valuable perspectives on local forest management and stewardship.

Thank you to Woodlots BC, Gord Chipman, the tour and conference host, and everyone who shared their knowledge and experiences. We came away with new perspectives, great conversations, and plenty to reflect on as we continue supporting community forestry across B.C.

National Day for Truth and Reconciliation is a time to reflect on our shared history, to listen and learn, and to recognize that reconciliation is ongoing work. Across BC, community forests are contributing to that work by building relationships with First Nations, creating opportunities for shared stewardship and decision-making, and learning from the knowledge and values that First Nations bring to caring for the land.
