One of my favourite past times is floral arranging, and I’ve really been missing design workshops since the pandemic hit.
I decided to take a crack at it again and purchased some loose floral and greens from the local grocer.
For the greens, I opted for eucalyptus because I love its serene, yet rustic look. The flowers are a mixture of the ever versatile gerbera daisy, along with some alstroemerias for the yellow accents.
I reused a vase I already had, so this project cost less than $20. (You could probably do this for $12-$15, depending on where you get your greens from!)
A couple of tips when flower arranging:
🌿 Cut the Stems before placing in water ✂️You’ve prob heard this one before, but cutting the stems on an angle allows water to effectively absorb, which of course, prolongs the life of your design!
🌿 Clear away excess foliage before placing greens or flowers into vase. Preventing leaves from hanging out below the water line keeps the water clean, and prevents bacteria, thus prolonging your masterpiece once again!
🌿 Change the Water 💦 And here we thought we only needed to give it water, right?! Fresh water keeps flowers alive longer. Dependent on the design, this can be tricky—I’ve seen a florist pull the bouquet out of a vase, change the water, and place the bouquet back in the vase, all while keeping the design intact! Amazing right? I’ve yet to perfect this, so for pro tips, maybe google it 😂
🌿 Just have fun with it. Flower design should be fun, relaxing, and peaceful. Don’t put too much pressure on yourself. It takes patience and practice. There’s no such thing as perfection or mistakes when it comes to flower design.
