LOVE AND KINDNESS -

I am reminded to have to slow down during a time where I want to stay busy. Not “doing” is a constant practice and one that I have fallen out of…

This is a repost of a meditation I shared back in 2020…

I’ll be re-sharing a few other meditations over the next weeks for others who might need them 😘

QUESTION for business managers — do you find some people on your team easier to manage than others? Some more committed to the work than others? And some who just seem more competent than others?

Odds are... yes 😬 Why? Well, everyone on your team is different, which can make your job as the leader a little tricky.

But it's actually a good thing because a variety of skills, experiences and characteristics makes a stronger team *as long as YOU can switch up your hats and adapt according to your employees' needs!
In a nutshell: effective leadership is not one-size-fits-all 🔑

FOR EXAMPLE: Think about it in the context of personal training — if one client is a seasoned athlete and another is going to the gym for the first time, do you think the trainer would be successful coaching them in the exact same way?
..spoiler alert: NO. Definitely not. The athlete would be able to handle complex workouts and be quite motivated, whereas the new gym-goer would need basic exercises and likely a lot of support. The trainer would need to adapt their programming, coaching and communication style to suit each client’s needs for them to perform optimally and achieve their best results.

Want to know the key to being a great communicator? Stop talking so much.

We all know it’s important for leaders to communicate well, but we often spend so much time focusing on how we speak and what we say, that we forget a major component of communication is *drumroll, please* ...LISTENING.

Want 3 tips to improve your listening? I’ve compiled these to help leaders limit distractions while listening, which you can access for free !

Success looks different for everyone. In my opinion, success is leading your own path and doing the work to find answers for yourself. When we let others tell us what we can and cannot do, what is good or bad, what is better or worse, we end up losing ourselves.

Over the past year, my success has been finding peace of mind, regardless of what happens around me — choosing to not let all the sh*t in the world stop me from living. My success has looked like:

1. Focusing on what is in my control (e.g goodbye news channels that only in-still fear and anxiety)

2. Mentally training for a birth-marathon and enjoying every part of it!

3. Working hard to land incredible clients and keep my business running

4. Accepting an HR role with a company I admire .ca

5. Having fun in the small ways that I can (e.g making a moss painting)

6. Feeling like the luckiest woman on earth thanks to

Over the next few months, I'll be pausing the majority of my work to give my full attention to this incredible new being in our lives, but will continue sharing leadership tips right here 📱

Free mindful leadership resources will remain available on my website and if you haven't already joined, hop on my email list for bi-weekly leadership tips and inspiration straight to your inbox.

You can book one-on-one time with me as of November 2021 ✨

And lastly, if you want to schedule some trainings, feel free to email me as I'll still be checking my email (just not as often).

Thank you for the fun photoshoot
and of course for the styling!

5 CRUCIAL questions to ask yourself if you want to be a better leader -

Strong leadership requires you to know yourself — what comes easy to you and what comes as a challenge, what motivates you and what drains you…and everything in between. These self-inquiry questions can be difficult to answer, but doing so will help you gain self awareness and show up as a better leader.

1. What do people think about you?

The good, the great, the bad, the ugly. These answers are simply meant to provide you insight, not a list of things to change.

2. What triggers you?

Know who and what pushes your buttons so you can take control of challenging situations while maintaining your poise. Common triggers include noisy environments, tardiness, gossip and authority. When you know what triggers you, your emotions won’t come as a surprise, which makes it easier to prepare for your own reaction. With practice, you’ll be able to manage your emotions without compromising your leadership.

REALITY ALERT | The biggest myth about leadership is that the person at the top has it all figured out.

When you think about yourself (or others) as a leader, which of the following attributes do you expect?
1️⃣ The leader has the intellectual capacity to make sense of incredibly complex issues
2️⃣ The leader has the imaginative power to paint a perfect vision for the future
3️⃣ The leader has the operational skills to transform strategy into concrete plans
4️⃣ The leader has the interpersonal skills to foster commitment

You’re probably thinking, “umm, Sophie, a leader should have all of those things.”

Let me ask you, have you EVER encountered a human that realistically performed up to those standards? 🤔

UNLIKELY.

There’s a common myth in our culture that there’s this “flawless” person at the top who’s got it all figured out and
I’d like to put an end to it. In fact, the sooner leaders stop trying to be all things to all people, the better off their organizations will be.

Thoughts? Share please!

“The only thing that leaders have in common is that they are leaders.” - Seth Godin

I was listening to this all-in-one episode that explores topics around leadership, mindset and how failure is essential for personal and professional growth. It’s a conversation between investor and entrepreneur, Shane Parrish, and bestselling author, Seth Godin that delivers a ton of insight around the way successful leaders think. It’s inspiring, educational and jam packed with tips that will likely shift your perspective on how YOU lead.

Godin calls out how we often assume there’s a set checklist of pre-determined qualifiers people need to become leaders, but argues there is no such “checklist”. Instead, you can become whatever you want to be by deciding you’re going to and changing your patterns.

👉 I highly recommend you listen to the whole episode. Find the link here: https://fs.blog/knowledge-project/seth-godin/

Slowing down doesn’t mean being lazy.... nononono 🤔

When we give ourselves a chance to catch our breath, we refuel, reassess and return to our projects with greater clarity and quality. It might mean taking 10 minutes to meditate, going for a walk, cooking instead of ordering in... Ironically, it’s often in the slowing down that you can achieve faster progress.

For me?
- it’s taking time to not plan
- walking my dog Eska
- taking a bath without a phone
- saying NO

What other creative ideas do you have to slow down?
