Thank you to everyone who attended our open house last night. We had a blast and hope you enjoyed the evening as well.

Next up for Waldheim Fire & Rescue is a partnership on Nov 4th, with MADD Canada, (Mother's Against Drunk Driving), and Waldheim School. MADD will present to the high school on the dangers of impaired driving.

Our open house is one day away! Our team is hard at work getting things ready. We have a lot of stuff to giveaway. We are grateful to our generous sponsors who have kindly donated various items. We have a Milwaukee Packout, protable grill, a drone, over $1200 in gift cards, and much more. The only thing that's missing is YOU! Join us tomorrow evening, October 9th, starting at 7:00pm. Truck rides, drinks and snacks, and Sparky the dog, will be in attendance.

October 4-10 is Fire Prevention week, with a focus on safe charging habits. As a part of that week Waldheim Fire & Rescue is hosting an open house for the community. We will have a coloring contest, where the winner and thier siblings get a ride to school in a fire truck. We will aslo have Sparky the mascot in attendance, truck rides, and a bunch of free giveaways.

So far, our generous sponsors have donated a Milawaukee packout, table top grill, two Herschel bags, and over 20 Co-op gifts cards totalling $1200, and much more. All you gotta do is come put a ticket in the draw. Hot chocolate and snacks will be provided.

At WFR, this our chance to spend sometime with the people serve and care about.

Given the tragedy that happened on Saturday night on Highway 12, we thought it would be appropriate to share some statistics on impaired driving in Canada. These stats come from MADD (Mothers Against Drunk Driving).

Were you aware that in Canada?....
In 2021, 459 Canadians were killed in alcohol-related crashes.
Approximately 1 in 4 crash deaths involved a drinking driver
In 2017, alcohol was involved in:
25% of crash deaths among 16–19-year-olds.
45% of crash deaths among 20–25-year-olds.
In 2022, road and other crash deaths were a leading cause of death for youth aged 15–24.
From 2017–2021:
Drugs were found in almost 45% of fatally injured 16–19-year-old drivers.
And in 61% of fatally injured 20–34-year-old drivers.
Enforcement (2021):
Police recorded 78,480 impaired driving incidents.
That’s about 215 daily sanctions.
206 sanctions per 100,000 Canadians.
9 charges per hour for alcohol or drug-impaired driving.

Today, we pause to remember the lives lost on September 11, 2001.
We remember the innocent people who never made it home.
We remember the families who were forever changed.
We remember the firefighters, police officers, paramedics, and other first responders who ran toward danger while others ran away.
Their courage, sacrifice, and willingness to serve remind us of the true meaning of selflessness.
From one fire service family to another, we remember the 343 firefighters and 23 NYPD officers, and 27 PAPD officers who gave their lives that day.
We will never forget. 🇺🇸

Not only is Tim our firefighter of the month, he's also our firefighter of the year! Tim is someone who represents what it means to serve. Since joining the dapartment, Tim has demonstrated commitment to the department, dedication to his fellow firefighters, and a genuine desire to serve the community.

Tim, thank you for answering the call. Thank you for putting others first.
Thank you for being part of this team. And thank you for representing Waldheim Fire & Rescue with pride. Congratulations to our Firefighter of the Year.
You have earned our respect, our gratitude, and our appreciation.
