FunFactFriday at Hanover Airport! 🎤

Did you know that every runway has a “strength rating” called a PCN? 💪🛫

PCN stands for Pavement Classification Number, and it tells pilots and operators how much weight a runway can safely handle without causing any damage! 📊✈️

Aircraft have their own rating too! It’s called an ACN (Aircraft Classification Number). The rule is simple: if the ACN is less than or equal to the PCN, you’re good to go! ✅

PCNs also include details about pavement type (asphalt or concrete), subgrade strength, and allowable tire pressure! It’s more than just a number; it fully reflects the runway capability!🧱

WOW! 🤩 Last Saturday, over 198 kids participated in Kids Fly Free SMA 2026!✨🥳

Perfect sunny weather, 10 aircraft, and an excellent job by the SMA pilots and the dedicated ground crew! 💛 We couldn’t ask for more! ✨

On behalf of the airport crew, we’d like to thank all the pilots, ground operations team, volunteers, restaurant crew and all the participants for making this event such a success!💛💛💛

Did you know that a windsock isn’t just helpful - it’s actually required at most aerodromes? 🧦✈️

According to Transport Canada, aerodromes need to have at least one windsock that is clearly visible to pilots both in the air and on the ground! 👀🛬

Windsocks are also designed with specific size, colour, and placement standards so they can be easily seen in various weather and lighting conditions!🌦️💡

This helps pilots quickly assess wind information during takeoff and landing, even without electronic aids! 📡

Did you know that helicopters can have different types of tail rotors? 🚁

The tail rotor’s job is to keep the helicopter from spinning - it counters the force created by the main rotor! 🔄 Without it, a helicopter would start spinning around its own axis!🚁
Types of tail rotors:

Conventional Tail Rotor - The “classic” small rotor mounted vertically on the tail!🌼

Enclosed Tail Rotor - An open tail rotor is placed inside a circular shroud (a duct). This design reduces noise and protects the blades from damage!🔦

NOTAR (no tail rotor) -Instead of a spinning tail rotor, this system uses a jet of air blown along the tail boom to create anti-torque force!⌛️

Coaxial Rotor - two large rotors mounted on top of each other, each spinning in the opposite direction! That helps to prevent the torque effect!🪜

Tandem Rotors - Two large main rotors placed at the front and back of the helicopter! 🚁 In this configuration, no tail rotor is required!🥸
