Did you know that an airport’s overall capacity is largely determined by its runways? 🛫

It might sound surprising, but no matter how big the terminal is, the number and layout of runways set the limit on how many aircraft can take off and land! 📏 More runways (or better runway configurations) mean more planes can move safely and efficiently!🌞

FunFactFriday at Hanover Airport!🤍

Did you know that an aircraft engine’s brake horsepower and thrust horsepower are not the same thing? 🤗

Brake horsepower (BHP) is the power produced by the engine at the crankshaft before it reaches the propeller! 🔧 However, not all of that power is converted into useful thrust! Some energy is lost due to friction, propeller inefficiencies, and airflow effects! 📉

The power that actually helps move the aircraft through the air is called thrust horsepower (THP)! 🚀

In other words, thrust horsepower is the useful power available for flight, while brake horsepower is the power produced by the engine itself! ⚙️

That’s why aircraft propellers are carefully designed to convert as much engine power as possible into thrust! 📐

FunFactFriday at Hanover Airport! 💼

Did you know runway and taxiway markings use completely different colours and patterns so pilots can tell them apart instantly? 🎨✈️

Runways are marked in white, with numbers, centreline stripes, and threshold markings that line pilots up for takeoff and landing! 🤍🛫

Taxiways, on the other hand, use yellow markings, including centreline guidance and holding position lines to keep aircraft safely clear of active runways! 💛🛑

Differences are also visible in the lighting! 💡 White lighting is restricted for runway edges, while blue lights indicate the edges of the taxiway!🧢

This simple colour system helps prevent confusion and keeps aircraft moving safely on the ground! 👀✅

FunFactFriday at Hanover Airport! ✈️

Did you know that a partial solar eclipse has only a minimal impact on aviation operations? 🌘

Pilots and air traffic controllers continue normal procedures, with no major changes required. The brief drop in light and temperature is closely monitored, but it doesn’t significantly affect aircraft performance or safety! 🛫

That said, it’s a unique moment for those in the air! Imagine seeing the sky darken mid-flight! 🌚

And good news for us: the next partial solar eclipse will be visible in Ontario on August 12, 2026! 🌞 So get ready!🏖
