Someone said this to me exactly this week: "I think I made about $8K in January. Maybe $8,200. February was a big month, like $11,000, but I'd have to check Stripe to be sure about March."
I read it and just felt for her. Not because her numbers are bad. Because I know exactly what it's like to be working this hard and still not know your own answer.
Here's what I want you to hear, gently: it was never that you don't care about your numbers. Nobody ever sat you down and showed you what to track, or why it mattered. The spreadsheet was never the problem.
So the only question I ask now is small. Am I on track? Not the bank balance. Not what the accountant says in April. Just — on track, or not.
I made a free Google Sheet for this. Your goal, what actually came in, and the gap between them, worked out for you. Four tabs. One number a month. That's all it asks.
