Get ready for elk rutting season- it is about to get wild! 🦌

Wildlife behaviour changes during specific times of year. For elk, the rutting season is when males exhibit extra aggressive and protective behaviour while attracting females to mate with. This season begins in late August and extends into early October.

‼️During this time, male elk call out to other male elk to establish their location. DON’T imitate their call.‼️

Some important safety guidelines for the upcoming rut season:

🗣️Be alert and make noise on trails. If you see elk, understand the warning signs – if it stops and stares, you are too close. Back away slowly and let it return to what it was doing.
🦮 Keep pets on leash at all times.Leashes must be 3m in length or less.
🔍 Look for signs of elk and be prepared to change your route to avoid them.
📏 Stay 30m away from elk. They may look relaxed or uninterested, but they are prey animals, they are alert and ready to escape predators quickly. Use binoculars and zoom lenses to watch them from a safe distance.

📞 If an elk charges, get behind a solid object, like a tree or car, and report it to Parks Canada immediately at 1-877-852-3100.

Here is the schedule for the live entertainment during our annual Canada Day celebration. Join us in the park behind the Community Hall for live music, hoop dancing, Original 16 Beer Garden, Prime Bistro Food Truck, face painting, arts & crafts, bannock making, 50/50 raffle and more.
