Bill 149 has passed! Many of the changes don't come into force immediately, but make sure you're aware of anything that affects your business. This bill made changes to the Ontario Employment Standards Act and Digital Platform Workers’ Rights Act most notably. If you use temporary agencies or recruiters in Ontario, their licensing deadline has been extended to July 1, 2024. Make sure you confirm the status of your recruiter's or agency's licensing application by then. Also, review your service agreements to ensure they allow for termination if they do not maintain their license.

Wondering about Ontario's Bill 149, Working for Workers Four Act? It's still going through the legislature, so it's possible changes will still be made to it. But if it passes as is, many important changes, such as new requirements around tips and gratuities and job postings, will not be in force immediately.
