INSPIRATION.ca An inspirational movement driving innovation, creation, self development and connections from the Waterloo Region

We have a great ecosystem in our community to help create and nurture startups, but still more than 95% fail. We have the tools, network and expertise to help these start-ups turn into scale-ups and succeed.

We took a big hit in the off season and weren't sure how, or if, we would be able to continue.

The encouragement and praise from our listeners inspired us. It inspired us to understand what exactly the value was from our podcast and our guests.

We thought it was strictly for founders and musicians. As it turns out, our audience was from all over, and they were people looking for inspiration. They were trying to understand how they could make that leap. They were people saying, 'there's got to be more to life than this'!

So, as you can see, we are now INSPIRATION.CA. And we couldn't think of a better guest to start season two, the season of our reimagination, than Fitz 'The Whip' Vanderpool!!!!!

Fitz 'The Whip' Vanderpool proves inspiration delivers a powerful punch. Read how hope helped us get back in the fight for Season Two — a short, uplifting read from Bill Waters. https://wix.to/zKC8bZA

For Fitz 'The Whip' Vanderpool, the whip isn't only the sound his fists make in the ring, it means a whole lot more. It's also what helped us return after our own devastating blow after Season One. We took an 8 count, shook the cobwebs out, reevaluated our mission and got back in the fight for Seaso...

When post-secondary programs in music are CUT - whether in music education, performance or industry arts - the loss goes far beyond a campus.

Students lose access to mentorship, training, and pathways into sustainable creative careers.

The arts community loses emerging voices, collaborators, educators, and leaders.

The music ecosystem loses the skilled performers, technicians, producers, managers, and teachers who keep it alive.

And eventually, the public loses too—fewer live shows, fewer music programs in schools, fewer culturally rich spaces, and fewer shared moments that music uniquely creates.

These programs don’t just train musicians. They sustain culture, community, and connection.

Closing them isn’t a cost-saving measure—it’s a long-term cultural deficit.

Journaling. Sleeping well. Drinking coffee at questionable hours.

In this clip, Martha Cotrill shares her nighttime routine—and why she stopped making journaling into a “big thing.” A little reflection each day. No pressure. No rules. Just enough to make sense of the chaos.

Then the conversation turns to sleep… and an interesting pattern: a lot of entrepreneurs and creators fall asleep easily. Not because they’re calm—but because they push themselves hard during the day.

There’s humor here, but also something real about balance, energy, and knowing when to shut things down.

There’s a difference between quitting… and outgrowing.

In this clip, Martha Cotrill talks about the things she wasn’t allowed to quit as a kid—music lessons and swimming—and how those experiences quietly shaped her life decades later.

She didn’t always love it. She definitely didn’t love practicing. And at one point, she walked away from piano altogether. But years later, during a stressful time in university, she wandered into a practice room… and her fingers remembered.

What started as obligation became therapy. And eventually, joy.

This is one of those moments that makes you rethink parenting, perseverance, and the long game of learning.
