๐MAJOR CHANGES TO ONTARIO IMMIGRATION PROGRAM (OINP)
Ontario has officially overhauled its immigration program effective May 30, 2026.
One of the biggest changes is that the legal framework for all nine existing OINP streams has been revoked as part of the province's immigration redesign. These include:
โ
Employer Job Offer: Foreign Worker
โ
Employer Job Offer: International Student
โ
Employer Job Offer: In-Demand Skills
โ
Human Capital Priorities
โ
Skilled Trades
โ
Masters Graduate
โ
PhD Graduate
โ
Entrepreneur
โ
Regional Immigration Pilot
So what does this mean?
๐Applicants who already submitted complete applications before May 30 are generally expected to continue under the previous rules.
โผ๏ธIndividuals who were only planning to apply in the future may be affected and may need to wait for Ontario's new immigration framework and replacement streams.
Ontario is also moving toward:
โก๏ธMore targeted draws based on labour shortages
โก๏ธStronger employer verification requirements
โก๏ธGreater flexibility to create, modify, or remove immigration streams
โก๏ธA more labour-market-focused selection system
At this time, Ontario has not yet released the complete details of all replacement pathways. We expect more announcements in the coming weeks and months.
If you were planning to apply through OINP, now is a good time to review your immigration strategy and understand how these changes may affect your eligibility.
โผ๏ธImmigration rules are changing quickly. Always verify information through official sources or consult a licensed immigration professional before making decisions.
