Your best employees are paying attention.

When bad performance keeps getting overlooked, your strongest people notice. They see who gets away with things, who picks up the extra work, and whether accountability actually matters.

And eventually, they may decide they’re done.

If you want to keep your best people, you have to be willing to address the uncomfortable stuff.

At the end of this week, I am pausing to celebrate a few wins with the organizations I work with 🏆💪🏻

Behind every business metric, there is a human story. And here are some that I am thinking about today as the week winds down:

✔️The one where we increased candidate quality and filled critical roles with just the right people at the right time.
✔️The one where we solved a complex global mobility puzzle and kept a brilliant employee right where they belong.
✔️The one where a founder tells me their team is finally rowing in the same direction, and the systems we put in place mean they can actually step away for the first time.
✔️The one where a leader feels supported and confident enough to handle a sticky conversation.
✔️The one where an employee feels seen and safe to talk about their actual experience.
✔️The one where a leader wearing multiple hats sends a note saying our session helped them reframe manager roles and build sustainable oversight.

I am wrapping up the week feeling so good about the fulfilling impact of this work. It is always a balance of the highly strategic and the deeply human ✨🙌🏻

How is your week winding down? What is one bit of progress you are reflecting on today?

We don’t usually recommend working at heights without proper fall protection.

We do recommend getting your HR in order before September.

One of those is an Occupational Health and Safety issue.

The other becomes one if you ignore it long enough 😉

P.S. If had been involved, this meeting would’ve happened at ground level 🤓

What if the problem isn’t your team?

What if it’s you?

The most effective leaders aren’t the ones with all the answers. They’re the ones willing to look in the mirror first.

Self-awareness isn’t optional in leadership. It’s where transformation begins.

Most business owners call a lawyer after the damage is already done.

The better move?
Fix the people problems before they become legal problems.

That’s what good fractional HR actually does.

If you tolerate it, you’re choosing it.

And your team is paying for it.

Not in dramatic blowups, but rather in quiet ways that are harder to fix:
– your strongest people start pulling back
– standards slowly drop (no one announces it, it just… happens)
– leadership credibility takes a hit
– resentment builds where you can’t see it
– and eventually, your best people leave

All because one issue stayed untouched.

Most leaders don’t avoid it because they don’t care.
They avoid it because it’s uncomfortable, messy, and “not the right time.”

But inaction isn’t neutral.
It’s a decision—with a $$$ cost attached.

If something’s been sitting on your mind about your team lately… that’s probably the thing.

Address it.

Or accept what it’s shaping.

If you want a high-performance, accountable team, this is the work.

We step in, understand how your business actually runs, and build the people side around that—so you’re not second-guessing every decision or putting out the same fires every week.

Fractional HR isn’t a shortcut.
It’s structure, clarity, and someone in your corner who knows what they’re doing.

✈️ Send this to a business owner who’s tired of guessing their way through people decisions.

I started writing about the part of running a business no one really teaches - the PEOPLE side.

The decisions that don’t feel clear.
The conversations you delay.
The issues that keep coming back.

If your hiring process hasn’t changed in years, 2026 is going to hit hard.

Bill 149 doesn’t care that you’re busy.
Or short-staffed.
Or “doing your best.”

It cares whether your job postings are compliant.

Smart employers are already:
✔️ Fixing templates
✔️ Aligning pay ranges
✔️ Cleaning up AI usage
✔️ Training hiring managers

The rest will learn the expensive way.

Choose wisely.

Ontario employers — save this.

Hiring rules changed on January 1, 2026, and if you have 25+ employees, this applies to you.

Bill 149 now requires:
• Real pay ranges in job postings
• No “Canadian experience required”
• AI disclosure if tech screens candidates
• Stating if the role is new or existing
• No ghosting interviewed candidates (45 days)
• 3-year retention of job postings + applications

This isn’t about being more transparent.
It’s about staying compliant and out of trouble.

Most issues won’t come from bad intent —
they’ll come from outdated templates and unclear ownership.

If you plan to hire this year, fix this now.
Not after a complaint lands on your desk.
