IRCC just updated how study permit funds are assessed.

A big bank balance alone may no longer be enough.

Officers are now instructed to look more closely at:
- Where your money came from
- Whether your funding is likely to continue throughout your studies
- Whether additional financial documents are needed to verify your finances

The updated guidance also confirms that applicants generally only need to show funds for:
• First-year tuition
• Living expenses
• Travel costs

Not the full cost of your entire program.

These updated assessment instructions apply to both:
- New study permit applications from outside Canada
- Study permit extensions inside Canada

If you’re planning to study in Canada, make sure your proof of funds is genuine, consistent, and well documented.

IRCC Update — PNP Work Permits Without AOR

Effective June 9, 2026, IRCC is temporarily allowing some in-Canada PNP applicants to use alternative proof of PR submission if their AOR has not been issued yet.

This may help with:

• PNP employer-specific work permits (T13)
• PNP bridging open work permits (A75)
• Eligible spousal open work permits for spouses of PNP PR applicants

Instead of an AOR, IRCC may accept portal submission confirmation + PR fee payment proof, or confirmation in IRCC systems that the PR application was received.

Important: this only applies to in-Canada work permit processing and does not guarantee PR approval or replace the R10 completeness check.

Ugandans, Congolese and South Sudanese in Canada got visas suspended in wake of Ebola travel restrictions. Canada implements emergency measures linked to public health concerns.

Individuals from these three countries already in Canada cannot use their documents to travel and re-enter the country during the suspension period. However, their legal status inside Canada is not cancelled.
