🐱 One of my favourite tools for assessing pain in cats!

Cats are notoriously good at hiding pain, which can make it difficult to recognize when something isn’t quite right.

I’ve always thought of the Feline Grimace Scale as a little cipher wheel for cats. They may not be able to tell us they’re hurting, but if you know what to look for, their faces can tell us quite a bit.

The scale gives us specific, subtle facial changes to look for, including ear position, orbital tightening, muzzle tension, whisker position and head position.

I love tools like this because they help take something that can feel subjective, “Does my cat look uncomfortable?”, and give us a more structured way to assess what they may be communicating.

It’s also a great reminder that pain doesn’t always look like crying, limping or obvious distress. Sometimes the signs are incredibly subtle, especially in cats.

Definitely worth learning about if you share your home with one. 💜🐾

This is a great example of why home monitoring can make such a difference for diabetic cats.

Monitoring blood glucose and performing glucose curves are an important part of managing feline diabetes, but as this video explains, stress from travel and a veterinary visit can significantly affect blood glucose readings.
