You don’t need to know exactly what to order. You just have to start somewhere, and sometimes that starts with, “What’s your favourite?”

At Rosehall Run, our 2022 JCR Chardonnay tells the story of this farm in a way that feels both classic and deeply rooted in Prince Edward County.

Our 2022 Chardonnay comes from our North and South Blocks, with vines planted in 2001 and 2004, and reflects both the character of the vineyard and the care that goes into every vintage.

A long, warm growing season helped the fruit ripen beautifully, while Prince Edward County’s cool climate helped the wine keep its freshness. The result is a Chardonnay that feels bright, layered, and grounded in place.
This matters because the balance is part of what makes this wine feel so complete - ripe, but still lifted. Textured, but still precise. A wine shaped by the vineyard as much as the cellar.
As part of a Certified Sustainable farm, it also reflects the long-term care behind the fruit - how the land is farmed, how the vineyard is supported, and how we continue to think about the future of this property with every vintage.

At Rosehall Run, sustainability starts with the land.

That means protecting the soil, using water thoughtfully, and making farming decisions that help keep the vineyard healthy over time. In the rows between the vines, growers often plant cover crops like grasses or clover. These plants help hold the soil in place, improve soil health, and support the vineyard through changing weather.

You may never see that in your glass directly, but it matters. Healthy soil helps grow healthier vines, and healthier vines produce better fruit. It also helps keep the farm strong for future vintages, not just this one.

For us, that is part of making wine with a sense of responsibility - and a sense of place.

At Rosehall Run, what’s in the glass starts with what’s under your feet.

Our vineyard was planted on limestone for a reason. This land was chosen for its calcium-rich, cool-climate soils - the kind that challenge the vine in all the right ways, helping produce the freshness, structure, and complexity that Prince Edward County is known for.

Limestone drains well, which means the vines have to work a little harder. Their roots dig deeper in search of water, drawing character from the soil along the way. That natural stress helps shape the fruit, especially for varieties like Chardonnay and Pinot Noir, which thrive in this kind of ground.

It is also part of what makes this property feel so distinctly Rosehall Run. From the rocky soils in the vineyard to the natural limestone foundation beneath the winery itself, this place was built with intention - and rooted in the kind of land that gives wine its sense of place.

Meet Dan Sullivan, Co-Founder, Head Winemaker, and Vineyard Manager at Rosehall Run Vineyards.

With over 35 years of experience as an Ontario winemaker, Dan is recognized as one of the leading winemakers and grape growers in Prince Edward County. Before Rosehall Run, he spent 15 years honing his craft as an award-winning member of the Amateur Winemakers of Ontario - a foundation that eventually led him to pursue a bigger dream.

In 2000, Dan set out to grow and make estate wines in Prince Edward County. Today, that dream continues through Rosehall Run’s estate-grown Chardonnay, Pinot Noir, sparkling wines, and wider range of County-grown bottles.

His work reaches beyond the vineyard, too. Dan has helped raise the profile of Ontario wine through his involvement with fellow winemakers, local growers, chefs, the LCBO, and provincial wine organizations including Ontario Craft Wineries and the Ontario Wine Appellation Authority.

At the heart of it all is a simple belief: great Ontario wine starts with care for the land, respect for the craft, and a deep connection to place.
