Happy New Year! 2025 saw some saw rough times, but also shone the light on the many blessings that we have in friends, a supportive workplace and the power of staying connected. I said goodbye to some folks I had worked with for a few years and although it was a tough decision, it was the right decision. Thank you to all who helped me and had patience with me as I worked through the loss of my brother in early 2025.

The difference between a meh and great workplace is understanding that the grieve is more than the three days breavement leave. There is a clear line that separates who I was before the loss and who I am now. I had to adapt how I work and plan my days, as you just don't know when that ball of grief is going hit it's target and take you out, for a day. And that is not always, if ever, at a convenient time.

In 2026 Karen Cooper, Administrative Services remains focused on work with Windsor Township Business Association and serving our community with volunteer Board roles on Avon Chamber of Commerce, Valley Women's Business Network, Ellershouse Community Hall and the Hospice Society of West Hants. Each of these builds community, supports our local small businesses and feeds our soul.

Proud to be a volunteer board member for Hospice Society of West Hants. Each month of this program has been amazing, not just for the expert knowledge being shared, but the group interaction and weaving a common thread throughout the group. That thread being that we are all here for the human experience and with that comes loss of beings we love at some point in our time here. This program can help us prepare and take the taboo out of talking about the end of our time in the Earthly side of our life.

What tricks do you have to keep you on track?

This summer will be the first time in a long time where I have only one job!

2025 has thrown a lot my way, good and not so so good, and I will not be taking on any new work at this time.

I am going to be taking the time to dig into my role with the Windsor Township Business Association and enjoy day trips in Nova Scotia.

Life is too short to not take the opportunity to spend time with friends and family when they arise. So this summer is about working for my community, time with a sometimes cranky senior pup who loves car rides that end with ice cream cones and seeing our beautiful province.

It has been a minute, but happy to report that so far 2025 is looking good.

I am not taking on any new work as I have an amazing work roster since July 2024 with the Windsor Township Business Association and a couple small clients.

I will be stepping away from my larger client that I have been with since June 2021 by March 31, 2025.

I made a huge decision in 2024 to retire from the Farmers' Market scene and leave the organization to continue to grow the market that I had been in charge of since inception in 2018. That exit opened the door to my current role as Program Coordinator for the Windsor Township. I get to do many similar things and work with an amazing volunteer board and counterparts in our municipality and others who do a similar role to mine in other towns and cities.

I hope you are having a great 2025 as well and if you are local our paths will cross soon.

This fella below remains my reason for everything and he is quite happy to have my schedule a bit more regular in the coming months.

If you're a bit stuck in 2025, go back to your "WHY?" (why am I on this board? in this job? at this course?, etc.) and if you are reviewing why you're doing this, that or the other - if it is not a positive impact to your WHY, it may be time for a change.

I am excited to host four Coffee Connections as part of my role as Program Coordinator with the Windsor Township Business Association .

If someone told me in 2017 after I was handed a fairly traumatic lay off that I would be where I am today, I would have never believed them. This role has me talking to strangers, in groups and ahh! presenting to Council in November. I have taken on leadership and Leadership roles that have been amazing and others that were lessons that took me awhile to learn....

But with years behind that event, I know see the blessings. It did the following:

👩‍🦳 having time with my Mom that I would have never had, time that was never long enough now that she is passed
🐕 being found by and adopting my soul dog
💪building resilance to tougher times and challenges
👋letting go of what was not meant for me
🙅‍♀️saying no when it is not the right fit or the right time

Supports along the way came from some of the usual sources and some unlikely sources at times, but they were all there in the moments I needed them. The Universe is truly Wise.

So maybe this is your sign to come out for a coffee and you just might meet the person or learn about an organization that will get you to your next goal.

We hope you will join us for one (or all!) of our Small Business Week Coffee Connections. We provide the coffee (tea) and sweet treats and you get to take a few minutes (or the whole time) to relax and meet others who either own or work in a small business.
