Garbage Bags!!

Did that get your attention?

With the sun and nice weather upon us we also obtain long days where the daylight might interfere with kids in the evening and mornings.

When its light out it prevents our body from creating melatonin fast and also wakes us up in the morning!

This can cause troubles for kids sleep -
The solution?!

➑PITCH BLACK ROOM!!πŸ–€

Garbage Bags will help if you are in a pinch. The darker the room the better!
This will stimulate night time and help children fall asleep faster and stay asleep!

If there was only one piece of advice I could give everyone to sleep better - would be this one ‴

Looking for the best ones or have questions about this please reach out in the comments!!

NAPS πŸ’€
This is a subject I get asked about everyday!

πŸ’›Babies; Refer to the wake window chart!!
Message me if you'd like it!

πŸ’›Toddlers; Do we keep the nap or drop it?

Around the 2.5-3 year mark you will notice that your toddler may not need that nap anymore! Or some days they do!

Here is the question I ask YOU when trying to decide what to do with your toddlers nap

➑Would you rather have your parent time during the middle of the day while they nap - making your child go to bed later?
OR
➑Would you rather have your parent time in the evening as your child will be going to be earlier to account for no sleep during the day?

You either get rid of the nap or keep it!
That's it!

If you need help with naps please comment below!!

Have you heard of SLEEP INERTIA?

It's that groggy, grumpy feeling you get when you wake up in the morning or from a nap

It's caused by an abrupt awakening from a deep or slow wave sleep or when the duration isn't sufficient.

Adults know how to verbalize this, children do not and it will often show up as crying or grumpy kids.

-Try wake your child up gently if you need to
-Make sure they are not going down for bed or nap over tired
-Try allow enough time for naps to avoid waking
-Turn that sound machine on and close those black out curtains so nothing wakes them up unnecessarily!

Does this happen to your little ones?

A new baby into the family is such a blessing
It can also be stressful!

You have just put in time and effort and your toddler is finally sleeping well - and here comes a baby that wakes and cries often.

What can you do?

Unfortunately bringing a new baby (or puppy even) into the family is a huge change and will most likely disrupt your other children's sleep

Here is what you can do

Babies cry and make noise, so keep baby in your bedroom to prevent the other members of the family waking.
Noise machines in your toddlers bedrooms work amazingly as well to drown other noise out!

Talk to your toddler! Tell them that babies can be loud and they cry, but everyone's ok! They just can't talk yet.

Toddlers also like helping - so involve them in this new life so they will connect to baby and feel comfortable with this new change

Toddlers may also get jealous of the 'new kid in town'. Give them attention too. Cuddles, time with just mom or just dad. They might want more out of you and will push boundaries at bedtime, but try stick to what you've been doing so to not disrupt their great sleep!

Everything settles into a new routine and now a new life so don't worry it will be ok!

If you need help or want some tips on what to do with sleep and a new puppy let me know below!

Oh Toddlers
This stage can be so tricky!

Toddlers are able to understand more and therefore try push limits when you ask something of them they might not want to do!
I think this is where the "Terrible Twos" saying came from!
It can be quite a challenge!

These little babies are not so little anymore and they are changing fast.

The one thing we do know about toddlers is they love consistency and routine! They want to know what is expected of them and can act out if they are unsure.

Here are some things to help them and YOU

⭐Have a consistent bedtime routine
This way they will know what to expect and these cues in your routine will help them know it's almost time for bed.
⭐Have Bedtime rules
(let me know if this is something you may need help with)
Create two rules at bedtime such as only 1 book , or you can only call mom and dad once at night or stay in your room till morning.
⭐Make bedtime enjoyable for the whole family
Bedtime should not be stressful! It should be enjoyed as a family
⭐Keep an early bedtime
7 or 7:30 is the optimum time for little ones to sleep - try keep it the same time every time!

Any changes to a toddlers routine will throw them off so keeping it as consistent as possible will make it easier on you and them!

πŸ•‘March 13th is Daylight Savings Time - Spring Forward

There is a few ways to approach daylight savings

πŸ’€If your child normally wakes up too early this might be the change you need!
If that's the case wait for the change and adjust accordingly by following this post⬆️

πŸ’€If your child is older, they will adjust fast and have no problems getting onto the new schedule after a few days!

πŸ•‘I suggest waiting till after the time change happens (for this one, not the fall change haha) however if you have time and would like to get a handle on it before here's how:

** reminder if your children are in school this maybe a bit harder to do. Reach out if you need any help

🌞Start on Wednesday by changing their bedtime and nap times 30 min later than normal.
So if they normallyΒ go to sleep at 7pm, have them in bed at 7:30pm
This will give them 3 days to get on a new schedule

🌞On Friday, have them on the new time before it happens!

I know, I know everyone hates the time change and if you get confused in any way please comment below so I can help you!Β
