So I admit that during these past couple of weeks, I have found myself stressing over a lot of things I can not control. Yesterday I reached out to my best friend and we connected through ZOOM. Not the ideal way, but so grateful that we live in a time where we have the means to do so. We talked and laughed for a couple of hours. I felt so much better afterwards. Did anything in the world change because of this conversation? No! But my overall sense of wellbeing improved and my outlook shifted towards "I can get through this."

We can get so caught up in the stress, we can forget the little things that can make a big difference to our wellbeing. Doing activities that bring laughter, joy, a smile to yourself or another can have a huge impact. Laughter truly is the best medicine.

Stress is a part of life. We all experience it, including children. Stress can effect our emotional, physical and cognitive wellbeing. Stress can also change our behaviors and effect our relationships.
We can learn to manage stress with more effective, healthy strategies and lessen the negative impact on our health and lives.

If you are struggling with managing stress, talk to your doctor or connect with a professional counsellor/mental health worker.

December has arrived!!! Happy Holidays to everyone. Under usual circumstances, the holiday season can be a time of increased stress. This year with the added covid-19 pandemic, our stress levels may be overwhelming and feel unmanageable.
For myself, I often return to one of my favorite quotes
"Remember the glass is neither half empty nor half full. It is refillable!" - Unknown Author
When I am feeling the effects of stress, I make sure I increase my self-care activities. 30 minutes a day of doing activities that I enjoy assures that I have the physical, mental and emotional wellbeing to manage the daily stressors in life right now.
Whether it is a 30 minute activity once a day, or 6 different activities done for 5 minutes each, through out the day, the benefits are similar. - Kandice

It can be scary to take that first step and reach out for support. So many unknowns and possibilities. We offer new clients their 3rd session free to help offset the cost of counseling. This is a great opportunity to give counseling a try.

What would the 3 sessions involve?

The first session is all about gathering information and discussing what has brought you to seeking support at this time. Session 2 includes further discussion including learning, reflection, understanding and developing an action plan or strategies that may promote change. Session 3 is about what has worked and adjusting any of the strategies or action plan to be more effective.

We also offer payment plans. Please contact us [email protected] for more information.

In these uncertain times please take the first step and reach out for support. We are interested in working with you and willing to look at payment plans if finances are a barrier to getting the support you need.

There comes a moment when the fear of the unknown is less than the fear and pain of remaining the same. The glimmer of different possibilities break through the darkness of the "what ifs" of our worse-case scenarios, irrational beliefs and negative self-talk and it is in this moment that change can occur.
Did you know that there are 5 stages of change?
1. Precontemplation
2. Contemplation
3. Preparation
4. Action
5. Maintenance
Change can be challenging, but research has shown that people are more effective in their change process when support and resources are in place.
Whether you are ready to take the leap with a major lifestyle change or just contemplating small baby steps towards change, our counseling therapists at Matters of Heart and Mind are available to walk alongside you on your journey.
Remember all new clients... pay for your first 2 sessions and receive your 3rd session at no cost.
