Living in a small space can be trickier, but not impossible!

As a small home owner, we've had to be very picky about what we bring into our space. Of course it's nice to have all the shiny new things (Homesense is a serious weakness) but at the end of the day, it can appear to look a lot more like clutter than that pretty new decoration it was intended to be.

If something comes in, something goes out.
Sell it, donate it, toss it - whatever makes sense for that item. One by one and you'll have a breath of fresh air in your small home. I promise! πŸ–€

What are we teaching our kids by accumulating and buying more and more just to "keep them busy"? Toy areas or even full playrooms can become overwhelming, and fast.

Did you know...a study was done where children were given just 4 toys to play with, and played TWICE as long as the children who were given 16 toys to choose from? We grow our attention span from a very early age, and having less distractions helps to foster better focus and attention later in life as well.

So...if you want to inspire creative play, limit options by hiding toys away and swapping them from time to time. It will feel fresh and new!

One of the best ways to keep up with clutter in the home is to keep a box (or bag, basket, etc.) specifically meant to put items that you no longer find use of, that is not trash.

As you go about your days, you'll be sure to stumble upon things that you no longer need, and voila! It now has a place to go, and you can free your mind of trying to remember what it was you meant to donate.

As the box fills up, empty it regularly just as you would the trash. You'll be amazed by just how many unwanted things you can gather up πŸ™Œ

This is also a great place to put items that you are -considering- donating, but are not yet sure. If you haven't noticed it missing/needed to use it within that time, parting with it will be that much more clear 🌿

πŸ’πŸ€” Ask yourself a few important questions... These are sure to help you figure out whether you will keep the item or toss it.

1. Does it work?
2. Is it a duplicate item?
3. Are you going to use it?
4. Does it add value to your life?
- This is a personal choice for each item. Someone may use an instant pot multiple times a week, someone may use it once a year. What is valuable to someone else may not be valuable in your own life.
5. Do you have space for it?
6. Does it trigger feelings of guilt?
- If you feel tied down to keep an item because of an overwhelming sense of guilt - it needs to go. Leaving room for negative emotions will only be an obstacle in decluttering.
7. Are you holding onto it just in case?
- This special moment you need it for could be years from now. Free your mind of trying to figure out how or when this item can be useful again. Instead, it could land in someone's hands who need it in the present.
8. If you didn't know it was there and haven't used it the whole time it was missing, it's a toss!

Keep in mind, there is no black and white rule when trying to identify clutter. Everyone's purposes and feelings towards items will be different. Let yourself take the time to truly find out if it matters in your life πŸ¦‹

It's not easy!! Decluttering can be such a daunting task...to spend your time looking through things you own that you KNOW are junk or just unnecessary in your current situation/lifestyle. How do you even get started on something like this?

Here's a short list of some really helpful ways to get you on the right track πŸ’

1. Plan a day, pick a space. It doesn't need to be something as huge as the garage. You can do a quick 10 minute tidy of a drawer that's giving you grief and work your way up as you begin to see results!

2. Make a plan - figure out what you want out of the space. What is your end goal? Do you want to feel more free? Focus on all of these things to keep you going until you're finished.

3. Find a buddy - someone who will help you feel accountable to keep you on track and who is also motivated to declutter spaces in their own home. Make challenges for yourselves to keep it fun!

4. Keep it light! Freshen up the space by lighting a candle, cracking a window open, and letting the sunshine in β˜€οΈ

5. Make it fun - turn on your favourite music 🎧 or podcast to help time pass without making it feel like "work"

6. Reward your hard work - simply seeing the results could be enough for you to keep the momentum to tackle other spaces. If that's not enough, anything that you enjoy at the end (self-care, fav. Show, popsicle, seeing a friend, glass of wine 😏)
Enjoy the process! The results are sure to make you smile πŸ€—

I got you covered. Life gets busy. Maybe you're moving and need help packing/unpacking into your new beautiful home. Online shopping *may* have gotten out of hand only to leave you struggling to figure out what you need vs. what will get piled into a closet only to get lost. Let's figure it out together so you can get back outside and enjoy this beautiful weather β˜€οΈ
Plus save yourself some time and sanity in the future getting you and your family out the door!

πŸ™Œ This could not be more accurate.
Common MYTH: you're home needs to look perfect at all times to be "organized".
If you're a mom like me, you -know- this is unattainable. We WANT our kids to be kids; to know making a mess is not wrong, to live and play and learn by practicing, and taking things out when it peaks their interest. And with all of that comes mess! But at the end of the day, when it's time to clean up, we want to be able to put it all away into the proper place and find it again tomorrow.
And even if you're not a mom, an disorganized space can make you feel like you've lost control of your belongings.
Less really is more!
That's organized living.
So go ahead - LIVE in your home 🌷 enjoy it for everything it does for you. Big or small, functionality can be found β˜€οΈ
