Every person on the PICN team is completing AI safety training this year.

Nurses, coordinators, office staff. Everyone.

Why? Because healthcare is full of sensitive information, and new tools are showing up everywhere. Our team should understand what these tools are good for, where they do not belong, and how to protect client privacy either way.

It is short, certificate-backed training. But it reflects something bigger:

Trust is not a value you put on a wall. It is something you keep proving.

When a child has medical needs, one of the first questions families ask is: what happens when school starts?

Many children who need nursing care can absolutely attend school. The care just needs to come with them.

Pediatric community nursing can support a child with:

• Medication and treatment during the school day
• Specialized equipment and medical needs
• Ongoing monitoring and assessment
• Care that works alongside school staff
• Staying included in the classroom

If your child needs nursing support during the school day, the time to sort it out is before September, not during it.

A lot of this is worked out together with your care coordinator through Ontario Health atHome, based on what is authorized. We help families ask the right questions and navigate the answers:

• What care does my child need during school hours?
• Who is responsible for delivering it?
• Does the school have the plan in writing?
• What happens on a field trip or a late bus?
• Who do we call if something changes?

Getting these conversations started early takes a lot of stress out of the first week back.

Good care should be measurable, not just felt.

That is why we are working through a formal accreditation process, reviewing how we document care, train our team, protect privacy and handle feedback.

It is detailed work. It is not especially glamorous.

But it is how a care provider proves that the standard families experience on a good day is the standard they get every day.
