Well…School is out for the summer! ☀️ 😅

If you’re anything like me, the excitement lasts about 10 minutes, after which your brain goes:

“Wait… they’re home ALL DAY now. 😱 ”

😂

Don’t get me wrong, I genuinely love summer with my kids.

But I also know that I do significantly better when my brain has structure to lean on and into.

In the moment, I tend to get easily paralyzed. What can I say? I’m not the backcountry Mama or the DIY craft Mama… 🤷‍♀️

I need just enough of a general routine that I don’t wake up every morning wondering, “Okay… now what?”

So…I made our family -
The Team Bailey Ansley Summer Club. 🌈

It’s basically a flexible/chill structure for our week:
🍓 Market Day
📚 Library Day
💜 Pajama Party Day
🌊 Adventure Day
🚒 Snack Day
…plus little reminders to read/journal, dance in the kitchen, help around the house, have family meetings, and yes… that Mom deserves a hot coffee too. ☕️😂

I honestly made it for us! And then…

A few friends saw it, and immediately asked if I’d make one for their families too, or show them how.

So now I’m curious…

✨ Friday Favourites

This week’s local combo was Everbean + Bakerview Park.

It was sunny AF, the coffee was truly GOOD, and I left very happy, indeed.

Everbean has been one of our favourite local spots for years (for plenty of reasons), but this week they earned extra points. As someone with celiac disease, I’m used to bringing home delicious treats for everyone else and doing a stellar fake that I’m “fine” about it (celiacs are rarely “fine”…btw 😒).

Not this time though!

Their made-in-house gluten-free focaccia filled my belly with morning happiness. But honestly? They take celiac safety seriously. They walked me through their process, explained their precautions, changed gloves, answered my questions, and generally made me feel like eating safely wasn’t an inconvenience. They understood the assignment, folks!

If you’re celiac, you know that’s a big deal.

Then we wandered over to Bakerview Park, which is a great setup for pretty much every kind of kid. Climbers, sliders, swingers, diggers, wanderers… (My kids call this the “library playground”, because we usually do this playground after the library) - but that’s a post for another time!

And if your kid is anything like my son, and occasionally treats playground equipment as a suggestion, there’s plenty of room to make dirt soup and wood-chip casseroles instead…right at your feet so you can sip your Java in peace.

The snickerdoodles came home for the family.

The focaccia came home with me.

Everybody wins.

Pro tip: we arrived 10 AM ish and had some sunny and cool (ish) quiet times there before the crowds descended at 10:30!

Well… this got dusty.

White Rock Local has been a little quiet the last few years, and for good reason.

Somewhere between these two photos we:

✔ had two kids

✔ moved

✔ stopped sleeping

✔ became weirdly invested in air fryer settings

✔ started discussing exciting topics like preschool registration, property taxes, and whether anyone remembered to switch the laundry

✔ acquired a few grey hairs, a few laugh/worry lines, and an encyclopedic knowledge of playgrounds and snack containers

But honestly? Not much has changed.

We still love this community.

We still believe local businesses are the heart and soul of White Rock and South Surrey.

And if anything, supporting local feels even more important to us now than it did when we first started this account.

It could be, that’s what happens when you start raising the next generation here? You start paying a little more attention to the people, places, and businesses that make a community feel like a home - and wondering how they’re doing.

So consider this White Rock Local 2.0!

No big rebrand or influencer aspirations.

Just us - (Britt and Mike plus the backs of their two tiny humans) - sharing local finds, local favourites, local life, and let’s face it, the occasional mediocre dad joke.

In a very on-brand mom brain moment, I’m just realizing there are only about 7–10 tickets left for The Mothership… and I haven’t actually shared it on here yet 😅

So — hi, White Rock / South Surrey friends!

If you’ve ever reheated your coffee three times, hidden in your bathroom for a minute of quiet, or ended the day completely overstimulated but still like… you need something? This is basically that kind of night.

🧀 Merry Christmas, and Happy Holidays to you all, White Rock/South Surrey! 🤶🏼

Santa (AKA Katrina at ) brought us the MOST delish local charcuterie box for our family gathering this year! What an easy-peasy and yummy way to contribute to our holiday party - and impressive looking, to boot! Olives, lots of cheeses varying in firmness, lots of different crackers, nuts… the whole shebang!

…and when we were all stuffed to the gills and couldn’t possibly eat another morsel, it was SO easy to transport to our next Christmas event that evening! Still as mouth-watering as ever, and this time… in front of a fire.

Not sure how you all feel, but I like a holiday meal to feel relaxing and no-fuss… and allow for picking throughout the day. But not to sacrifice taste! Charcuterie is THE way to do. And in this weather and when you’re traveling, speaking from experience, a great car snack even! 🤤 - we salute you!

A long time ago in a galaxy far, far away…

💫… and I visited many a brewery. It was actually our thing - a thing that led us to opening our own mobile canning business:

🍺 It was such so nice to get to connect over a local brew, at a place we’ve only popped our head into once before! It was… outta this world? 🌍 👏

Thanks for the month of fun, all you great local restaurants and breweries!

Now let’s get our holiday season on! 🥂 🎅🏼

🎄 ☕️ When it comes to courting cafes during the holiday season - the coziness factor is paramount.

✏️ My personal requirements: good company, festive music - preferably jazzy in tone, later afternoon twilight vibes, delicious drink in hand (complete with snazzy mocha art), chocolate (in both drink form and pastry form), and plenty of holiday garland/tree decor.

🥐 took the cake! (Well… technically the pain au chocolat) 🤤

Happy Friday, Folks!

Our weekly Taste White Rock choice did not disappoint. Who has tried Sushi Iwa on the beach?

We were SUPER impressed not only with good sushi, but with their accommodations for young families there. We sat down and immediately they got our girl eating asap. If you’re a parent - you GET it. And they got it. As a result, we had quick and very friendly/warm service, and a happy toddler eating sushi! 👏
