Happy New Year and best wishes for 2024 from the team at Yukon 3D Solutions!

A new year means a new printer for us! Our newest addition is a Prusa MK4, the next generation model of our workhorse Prusa MK3's that have been in service since our inception in 2020.

This printer is a massive improvement! It is faster, more reliable, and easier to use, making the Mk3's look rather outdated despite them being formidable printers themselves. Well done Prusa Research 3D printers! You really outdid yourselves this time.

The photos show owner Lukas following Prusa's excellent assembly instructions to build the MK4. It only took about 9 hours! The machine has been test printing since then and is almost ready to usurp the older Mk3's...

This project is a fantastic example of how the limitations of 3D printers can be surpassed! Too big to fit on our workhorse Mk3, this was printed in 4 pieces, which will be glued together and used as a mold to cast a metal part using a process known as lost PLA casting. We can't wait to see the resulting all-metal Ouroboros made from this mold!

In total this print took well over 38 hours to complete, not including the challenging task of removing the support material from the intricate geometry. This part of the printing process is often overlooked and is not as simple as it looks. If only there was a way to make this process easier... stay tuned!

We love making functional parts for our customers, it is one of the best applications of 3D printing as it can extend the lifetime of a product or allow you to make repairs more cost effectively than otherwise possible.

For instance these RV weep hole covers were modeled in house from an existing component in a matter of days despite their deceptively complex geometry. This was perfect for our client that was eager to take their toy out for a camping trip. We even printed them out of PETG for better UV resistance!

Just last week, Yukon 3D Solutions celebrated its 3rd birthday! We cannot believe it has already been 3 awesome years of serving Yukoners! Throwing it way back with this picture from our very first social media post...

Things have changed a bit since our inception; now this small business is run remotely by founder / owner Lukas, who takes care of customer relations, consulting, and design work. Team Yukon, Andri and Rahel, do what needs to be done at the Whitehorse location where the printers live, including: operating them, supervising the printing process, troubleshooting, removing supports, and delivering to clients.

Do you recognize this? We didn't either at first!

It's a Lego sorter, you can put your pieces in the top and sorts them by size. This would definitely come in handy at the end of spring break, when the house needs to be cleaned up before the kids go back to school.
