Woke up in Ottawa. Ending the day in Pelly Crossing, on Selkirk Territory.

One day, one country, end to end. I never want to get used to that.

This photo is from the National Indigenous History Month celebration on the Hill. Standing with my Northern Energy Innovation colleagues, Minister Rebecca Alty, and Indigenous leaders from across the country.

This week ran from Vancouver to Fredericton to Ottawa and home to the North. The miles aren't the point. The people are. I get to see this country alongside clients and partners building something real for their Nations, and that's the privilege of my life.

In the Yukon now with new clients. Grateful.

From the Pacific to the Arctic and back. 20 days. 3 countries. One wild start to the year. 🌎✈️

My schedule has been non-stop, but the mission remains consistent: driving Indigenous participation and sustainable energy solutions.

📍 Vancouver (AME Roundup): Representing Mokwateh—shout-out to Max and JP! Seeing Indigenous Nations guide the industry on FPIC was critical. The energy of the drum dancing was a powerful reminder of why we do this work.

👨‍👩‍👧‍👦 Recharge: Quick stop to see the family (missing my little man Ni’inlii!) before crossing the ocean.

🇳🇴 Tromsø, Norway: Deep diving into Arctic security and energy resilience with Michael and Rob from Northern Energy Innovation (NEI).

🇮🇸 Iceland: Stole a birthday weekend to explore the history, food, and landscapes with my partner. 🌋

🇨🇦 Ottawa & Toronto: Currently in Ottawa for a whirlwind 32 hours supporting NEI, then heading to Toronto for Arctic 360.

At Arctic Frontiers this week with Northern Energy Innovation, and Arctic security is front and centre. You can feel the shift: more geopolitical pressure, more “strategic” talk about the North.

My worry is simple: when decisions speed up, Northern people get pushed out. The Arctic becomes a chessboard and Indigenous nations get treated like “stakeholders.”

Real security in the Arctic has always been relationships, trust, and cooperation, and it has to include self-determination, strong Indigenous governance, and community resilience. Even energy belongs in that conversation: if a community controls its energy future, it’s less vulnerable and more secure on its own terms.
