Fire is lit for 7 hours today behind the KDCC. Come on down and enjoy the nice weather. Dinner served at 5pm.

The Yukon community has spoken, we will continue with the monthly community fires 🔥

All fires will be at the Kwanlin Dun Cultural Centre fire pit. If anybody would like to be apart of or need some ceremony done. Please feel free to contact Doronn Fox on the poster below.

Quick update for today’s walk and ceremony at the Kwanlin Dun Cultural Centre fire pit.

For the walk this year, Amber Taylor-Fisher will be leading the walk from Yukon Education to the KDCC fire pit. If you would like to be involved or support in anyway, please contact her directly at +1 (867) 334-8205.

We have received a lot of communication from the Yukon community regarding Red Dress day and the current state of grief the Yukon is feeling. Our Elders involved in the process from planning months ago to today are telling us to remind the community of why we gather today.

Today is for our Murdered and Missing Indigenous Women and Girls, and two-spirit plus people. This does not take away or minimize the grief felt by the Yukon community and the hurt the justice system is continuing. We gather today to honour the women in our lives, challenge the systems that still exist in which don’t allow equality, equity and honour for our women. We do the fire and ceremony to educate and allow scared space to move forward healing. Please remember that when you come today.

We must also protect our women and children first and foremost. The Yukon community have ask us as organizers to ensure safety. Recent post on social media with court records of men who have harmed women and children have come to light. We as men, supports and organizers will ensure none of these men are present at the event today. If they are, please let us know and we will do what we need to ensure safety of the ceremony today.

Lastly, we must remind the community on some protocols put forward by the Elders, fire keepers, and organizers.

- no photos of the fire

- no videos when ceremony, songs and speaking is occurring.

- we will smudge and offer to***co, if you don’t want to be smudged or receive to***co, please let us know.

- Elders will be sitting up front of the fire to hear and participate in everything.

- speak with our Fire Lead before the Ceremony and prayers start if you would like to express anything.

- Elders and Youth eat first when we finish Ceremony.

Good morning,

For the last two years, we’ve run a community sacred fire every month in support of the needs of the people. After we finished our 2025 plans last month in August. We asked if the community would like us to continue.

Since then we’ve received an overwhelming amount of messages, calls, communication from community to continue. What was expressed the most was the fact the community knew we were doing it and felt the support. Even if they couldn’t attend, they knew a fire was happening and it supported more than we even expected.

Because of the communication received, we will continue the monthly community fires. The next one is today at the Kwanlin Dun Cultural Centre Fire Pit.

We will figure out in the next few weeks the dates for the months to come and locations. We will be at the fire pit today from 12-7pm with dinner provided at 5pm.

Women’s wellness camp at Effie’s camp in June, share share ♥️.

WAWC is running a free wellness camp for Indigenous Women! We have partnered with Home Fire, Tsalazra and Effie's camp to run the camp. The women will spend 3 nights at the camp enjoying nature while doing a wide range of activities! Contact Emersyne to learn more and sign up.

WAWC is running a free Indigenous youth camp in June! We have partnered with Home Fire, Tsalazra and Effie's Camp to run the camp. The youth will stay at the camp for 3 nights and get to learn traditional knowledge while also doing fun activities! contact Emersyne to learn more and sign up.

Sacred Fire in Support of Red Dress Day

Saturday May 3rd - Monday May 5th

Fire starts at 3pm on May 3rd » Fire ends at 3pm on May 5th

10:30am - Gather at the MMIWG2S+ Monument at Rotary Park

11:00am - Walk will start

12:00pm - Walk ends at Kwanlin Dün Cultural Centre Fire Pit

Lunch is provided on May 5th, the Sacred Fire will run for 48 hours straight. Everyone is welcome to come by from Saturday to Monday and give prayers and show support.
