With the downturn in the tourism industry funding and no change in sight I am ramping up my own business back again (Indigenous Guide Development Services) and coordinating a number of Mi'kmaw 101 Cross Cultural Awareness Training Courses in the coming weeks as part of the efforts to honour and recognize the 94 Calls to Action under the TRC (Truth & Reconciliation Commission).

Attached is a poster that I will be sharing far and wide on the upcoming training sessions that I will be delivering along with Mi'kmaw Cultural Specialist Mr. Graham Marshall from Membertou.

Some topics will include Mi'kmaw Cultural Perspectives, Statistical Data, Traditional Protocols & Values, Guide to relationship Building, Historical Treaties in Mi'kma'ki, Residential School Impacts, TRC 94 Calls to Action, Indian Act of 1867 & Today as well as guidelines in developing your Land Acknowledgement Statements.

These will be full day sessions held in different locations across Mi'kma'ki / Atlantic Region. These sessions will be open to anyone interested in learning more about the true Mi'kmaw history of these lands with a focus on reconciliation & decolonization.

There will only be a limited number of 30 seats available for each training session (to ensure quality) so register fast before the sessions fill up. Register online ASAP.

All registration, event info and payments by credit card or E-transfer to my email can be made on the site.

Our first Mi'kmaw 101 Training is scheduled for Monday, September 28th, 2026 at the Membertou Trade & Convention Centre. These are full day sessions from 8:30am - 4:30pm.

Other sessions with dates in October are listed on our poster and on our website at www.theIndigenousGuide.com.

For more information please feel free to message me privately and or email me at [email protected].

We are hoping to gather more voices around the table in support of Mi’kmaw Tourism being included into the new Provincial Tourism Strategy that is being developed by the Province with Tourism NS and TIANS leading the way. We have asked to have specific sessions for our Mi’kmaw people and partner organizations so that we can have stronger input into the new strategy.

We are also including the importance of who we are as a Mi'kmaw Nation, our culture, our history and the future opportunities for our people and children involving tourism.

We hope that you can join us tomorrow – please share in your networks and social media links! For more info, please reach out to Robert Bernard, NSITEN Executive Director at [email protected].

Don't you just feel like telling people... "What are you looking at, mind your own business", lol. This beautiful photo of a bald eagle that I found online just reminds me to always keep your head up, "you just never know what beauty you may see in life"...
