Today I had the pleasure of engaging educators. I am creating a code of conduct for employees, and this organization graciously allowed me to practice REAL decolonized approaches to policy making. I talked about how decolonizing policies means engaging, listening, and implementing ideas from those impacted by these policies.

We played a little facilitation game I created called "Policy Speed Dating". We had a lot of fun and learned a lot about the values of the organization, how to implement those, how to create connection, and how to support one another.

At the end, the feedback I received was that people have never been apart of helping create policy before and they were happy to be included.

Now the work begins ❤️

*NEW POST*

Policy development cannot truly be decolonized if policies are still being created for people instead of with them.

As my work continues to evolve, so does the way I approach policy development. I am intentionally shifting away from top-down models and moving toward practices that are collaborative, relational, and community-led. This means building policies alongside the people who are directly impacted by them, not after the fact, and not as a checkbox for consultation.

Real buy-in comes from the ground up. It comes from listening, involving, and honouring the lived experiences, voices, and wisdom of the people who will ultimately carry and live within these policies.

Decolonizing practice is not just language we use in meetings or strategic plans. It is something we must actively practice in the way we lead, engage, and make decisions. For me, this is what it means to walk the walk.

My business and my ethics are deeply aligned in this work. Indigenizing policy means creating processes rooted in relationship, accountability, reciprocity, and community voice, not simply adapting colonial systems with Indigenous wording attached to them.

There is still so much work to do, but I am committed to doing this work in a good way.

If you are looking for a new take on policy development rooted in culture, lets have a conversation.

Today I got to do a Cultivating Safe Spaces Facilitation for a group of really amazing people. They work in the health sector for their own community and are actively trying to decolonize the work they do. I always leave every CSS session with a sense of hopefullness and joy. I absolutely LOVE what I do, and when I can do it at a beautiful place such as Sparkling Hills then all the better. Sechenalyagh to Ulkatcho Health Services for trusting me to teach such an incredible framework and allowing me a day of being in all your presence. Indigenous communities are the reason I do this work, and communities like Ulkatcho are what drives me to keep going.

I'm proactively prioritizing my well-being this winter, taking a purposeful pause to recharge and refocus. Winter brings time to reflect, slow down, and plan. This strategic break will allow me to return to community projects refreshed, revitalized, and ready to make a lasting impact. I'll reopen in the spring. I am grateful for your continued support of my small Indigenous business.

I just wrapped up a 2 day strategic planning facilitation for an organization I have worked with previously.

During this facilitation we reviewed the mission statement and did an organizational SWOT analysis. I also asked the hard question of what does decolonizing and Indigenizing look like for them?. On day 2 we did an exercise I created called "dreams, goals, accountability, and legacy" where I had the teams dive into what the over all dream for the company is, what the goals were for the next 2 years, who they are accountable to for the goals, and what legacy will they leave behind in their organization.

I then had them dive deeper into the goals by creating SMART goals. We ended the day with a closing circle in which I was given many compliments on my facilitation style and heard that people felt like a lot of good work got done in those two days ❤️❤️❤️❤️ I absolutely, 100% love the work I do in my business.... this work gives me so much joy and ignites so much passion. This work validates why I chose to step into this field. My whole goal is make sure everyone feels like their voices are heard and I want them to see themselves in the final report/product created.

Two weeks ago I presented to FNHA northern region in Prince George about cultivating safe spaces. I had to adapt the facilitation to be in lecture formate and I had to get it in under 3 hours. I also presented to roughly 70 people, the largest group I ever worked with. I picked a few key things to focus on and I am proud to say I was successful! focusing on key elements meant that people got a good understanding of the main pieces of the framework and we touched on trauma, stress, and triggers, and how that effects people in the workplace. Some very insightful feed back from the group on what constitutes as self care as well ❤️❤️❤️

I love what I do when I teach cultivating safe spaces. As an Indigenous woman, this framework is so natural to me. I really do feel like I'm in my element when I'm passing on knowledge, that feels so traditional to me ❤️
