Two quieter CPSO updates worth two minutes of your attention.

Medical records management: even if a commercial EMR vendor or records service handles your day-to-day, you remain ultimately responsible for meeting your record-keeping obligations. CPSO advises putting vendor agreements in writing and confirming they reflect your actual regulatory requirements.

Virtual care: CPSO reiterated that virtual care is a strong tool for access and efficiency, but it is not a fit for every condition or every patient. Worth a periodic gut check on which visit types your practice defaults to virtual, and why.

Neither requires action today. Both are worth a second look before they become a bigger problem.

RCDSO has published Vision 2035, its long-term strategic direction for the dental profession in Ontario over the next decade. Full details are still emerging.

It's worth a moment of reflection for practice owners: as RCDSO thinks in ten-year horizons, how far out is your own practice's plan? Long-term regulatory direction tends to show up first as a vision statement and later as specific standards. Getting ahead of that curve is easier than catching up to it.

Windsor Regional Hospital and Erie Shores HealthCare are combining administrative leadership. WRH CEO Kristin Kennedy will also serve as CEO of Erie Shores, a role she held before coming to WRH. Erie Shores Interim CEO Katelyn Dryden becomes CFO for both hospitals. Both organizations keep separate boards and financial operations.

The change is expected to save roughly $2 million a year through attrition and eliminating duplicated costs, with no layoffs anticipated. A useful example of shared-services consolidation without a governance merger.

The Fancsy Family Hospital held its official groundbreaking ceremony on July 16, joined by Premier Doug Ford, Deputy Premier and Health Minister Sylvia Jones, Windsor Mayor Drew Dilkens, and Essex County Warden Hilda MacDonald.
This is the kind of long-term infrastructure investment worth keeping on your radar if you're making five-to-ten-year practice planning decisions in Windsor-Essex.

Back in May, Ontario began market sounding with EMR vendors as it explored a future provincial standard. That process has now moved into formal procurement.

The province has launched a Request for Bids through Supply Ontario for a single interoperable EMR platform. Approximately 90% of Ontario family physicians already use some form of EMR, meaning the challenge has not been adoption, but fragmentation across systems.

No vendor has been selected, and no migration timeline has been announced, so there is no immediate action required. However, practices evaluating or renewing an EMR contract within the next one to two years may want to factor this provincial direction into their planning.

This will be an important development for Ontario healthcare organizations and physicians to monitor closely.
