Bill Klassen Auctions Ltd.

Bill Klassen Auctions Ltd. We provide auction services (Farm, Surplus, Household, Retail, & Business) to southern Manitoba. Previously, he had only conducted a few charity auctions.

On July 23, 1968, at the age of 20 years old, Bill Klassen held his first farm auction. Now he had made it to the big time! His first farm auction consisted of 12 jersey cows and older machinery. As a new comer to the auction world, Bill approached the owner and asked he could conduct the client’s farm auction. It took several weeks before the owner contacted Bill to tell he got the auction. Later

that Fall, Bill sold the dairy cows for the late father of our present auctioneer, Vic Wolfe. On December 1, 1968, Bill flew to Kansas City for the two week Missouri Auction School course and graduated on December 13. The next day, December 14, at 1 pm Bill conducted a small farm sale, south of Morden. Bill sent the auction poster to Missouri and in the next month’s news letter he received the honor of having booked and conducted an auction within 24 hours of graduating. It was very difficult for Bill to get established independently in the local area in the beginning. There were already some experienced auctioneers in the area, serving their clientele well. Therefore in order for Bill to gain some experience as an auctioneer, he joined forces with Mr. Jake Enns of AJ Enns & Sons Auctions with which he continued to work with for the next 2 years. After 2 years with Jake Enns, Bill thought it was time for him to branch out and establish himself as an independent auctioneer. In 2004 the company started providing internet bidding. Bill’s nephew James Klassen was very instrumental in getting the service of online bidding established. Because of him, Bill Klassen Auctions was the first Manitoba auction company to bring live video from a farm auction site to the comforts of your home. Unfortunately this service can only be offered when there is strong cell tower service. Most of the time audio is the only option.
2012 saw a major change for Bill Klassen Auctions. Bill made the decision that the company should keep up with the times and convert over to computers. Every aspect of the company is now managed electronically. Bill’s nephew Ryan was extremely pivotal in getting the company trained with the new program. Bill Klassen Auctions is glad to have connections with association members, in Manitoba, Minnesota and NAA. Bill has enjoyed being on the board of the new Manitoba Auctioneers Association, at the ground level and serving as its president for 3 early years.
