"All our dreams can come true, if we have the courage to pursue them." - Walt Disney
Walt Disney, the founder of The Walt Disney Company and the man whose vision resulted in the establishment of Disney Parks and Resorts all over the world, taught us the most important lesson on choosing optimism over pessimism - a concept we can apply in our daily lives and business no matter what challenges we face.
“I always try to look on the optimistic side of life,” Walt once said.
Walt had to deal with a lot of "Nos" when he initially started out.
Walt had basically lost everything. He was in New York to finalize a new deal for the distribution of his hit cartoon character, Oswald the Lucky Rabbit. When Walt arrived, he discovered that his distributor, who owned the Oswald rights, had hired most of Disney's animators to form a separate studio to make the cartoons without Walt's involvement.
Walt dispatched the telegraph, boarded his train, and proceeded west with three days to think out what and how to inform Roy because he had no contract, income, product, or animators. Walt, on the other hand, did the polar opposite of brooding the entire time. He pulled out his sketchbook and went to work on a completely new character, one that not only had the slapstick hilarity that had made Oswald famous, but also had a heart, a soul, and he was a mouse!
Walt's new character, Mickey Mouse, made his debut in "Steamboat W***y," the world's first fully synchronized sound cartoon, later that year. By the spring of 1929, Mickey had established himself as the world's most popular cartoon character.
When Walt was initially starting out, he faced numerous challenges. He didn't have much money or assistance, so he had to rely on his own enthusiasm for his goals and unwavering positivity to carry him through his worst days. Mickey Mouse was born out of a need for something unique to him, but his optimism at the moment spurred him to maintain a cheerful attitude in the decades that followed.
Walt went on to found The Walt Disney Company, which produced innumerable Disney classics (including Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs, the first feature animated film! ), incredible characters, admirable princesses, and the Disney Parks, the world's most pleasant places. What would our world be like if Disneyland or EPCOT didn't exist?
We may not know how long it will take to realize our goals, but believing in ourselves and approaching life with a good attitude can undoubtedly assist us.
