Spring Forward, Fall Back… or End It for Good?
A new PRA survey of 1,060 Manitobans shows a strong majority are ready to stop changing the clocks twice a year.
Key findings:
• 34% want permanent Daylight Saving Time (CDT)
• 18% prefer permanent Standard Time (CST)
• 21% support a permanent system but don’t care which one
• Only 14% want to keep switching clocks twice a year
That means roughly 3 in 4 Manitobans support moving to a permanent time system.
Why the push for change?
Supporters of permanent Daylight Saving Time say longer evening daylight improves quality of life, recreation, family time, and mental wellbeing during Manitoba winters.
Supporters of permanent Standard Time point to brighter mornings, safer winter commutes, better sleep, and alignment with natural circadian rhythms.
Those who support keeping the current system say the seasonal switch provides the best balance between winter mornings and summer evenings.
One thing is clear: Manitobans are tired of changing their clocks and adjusting their sleep schedules twice every year.
Do you think Manitoba should:
• Stay on Daylight Saving Time year-round
• Stay on Standard Time year-round
• Keep changing clocks twice a year
• Manitoba should permanently stay on one time, but I don’t have a preference for Standard or Daylight Saving Time
• No preference at all
Tell us why in the comments.
