Meet Don! 👋

Don joined us in November 2025 as a Senior Architectural Designer. A thoughtful professional with an eye for finer details, Don holds a Bachelor of Environmental Design, continued his studies through the RAIC Syllabus program, and brings 25 years of project experience across a wide spectrum of sectors. Starting on the technologist side of the practice, he grew into design and project management — and today he enjoys settling into the creative rhythm of design while helping teams get the most out of emerging digital tools. He has a genuine passion for mentoring — one that extends beyond the office into volunteer service in his community.

“I’ve been interested in design for as long as I can remember — graphic design, industrial design, all of it. Architecture turned out to be the right fit: it brings all of those interests together into something tangible that people experience every day.”

Fun Fact: I’m a car lover who doesn’t indulge… and yet I’ve driven a Ferrari on a track in Italy.

Earlier today we had the honour of welcoming two wonderful ladies from SHADE Inc to our office – giving them a tour and learning more about the important work they do in the community. Following our annual golf tournament fundraiser in June, the raised funds were donated to SHADE – a charity that helps immigrant and refugee women and their children suffering from domestic abuse. They provide practical and comprehensive resources, self-care and counselling opportunities and education with the help of language interpreters.

Big thank you to our colleagues, partners and everyone who participated in this year’s fundraiser – your generosity and support make fundraisers like this possible and always make an impact for those who need it most.

A new flagship office for Portage Mutual Insurance is taking shape in a unique office space at Tuxedo Business Park 🦬

Compared to their previous location on Portage Avenue, this space provides greener surroundings, brighter atmosphere, higher ceilings and windows, and a more modern approach to collaborative work and fun in an office environment. The client aims to cultivate a welcoming, functional and engaging space that naturally draws their hybrid staff back to the office.

Design draws from the client’s Prairie heritage and natural landscapes, and with its incredible 22ft ceilings and exposed concrete walls, the space incorporates features not often found in office settings, giving the client a unique edge.

Nature-inspired materials and elements, an outdoor patio, as well as unassigned workstations all contribute an autonomous, wellness-driven design for this office.

These projects remind us that recreation isn’t just about sports – these spaces shape shared rituals and create more opportunities for cross-generational gatherings and accessible pathways to wellbeing.

Across golf and country clubs, aquatic centres, libraries and full multi-purpose recreation hubs, our team has led some of the region’s most impactful projects. When recreation spaces are designed with intention, they become the settings where neighbours meet and find belonging, seniors stay active and connected, and families build routines that strengthen the fabric of a city.

Big swings, big hearts, and big impact! 🏌️

Our 35th annual charity golf tournament saw a great turnout, rain or shine! Some played with us for the first time and got a taste of the LM-ESP golf spirit.

Huge thank you to the generous sponsors who supported our raffle this year! The event was a success because of your support.

We raised over $2,000 with each dollar being matched by the partnership for greater impact! This year, proceeds will be donated to CancerCare Manitoba and SHADE – a charitable organization focused on providing supports for immigrant women and their children impacted by domestic abuse and family violence.

We are thrilled to unveil a project that has been quietly happening behind the scenes in our own office.

Last month, we opened the doors to our new amenity lounge, named “The Exchange” by our staff. It marks the first phase of renovations at our office, and we’re excited to showcase the next stages.

1,430 square feet of thoughtful design boasts 10 ft ceilings, light-filled views of The Exchange District, a fully equipped kitchenette, variety of seating, working and collaboration options, and a connected TV system for presentations.

But it’s the details that make this space truly special. Legacy Accent wall design that honours our history, bold backdrop tile and custom kitchen island lighting, custom booth seating with built-in plugs for effortless workflow, casual windowsill seating, and 360 control of every light in the lounge.

Designed as a truly multifunctional space, these elements support staff wellbeing, offer new spaces to work, connect and relax, and modernize our office in a way that proudly displays our legacy while accommodating different modes of working for our staff.
We look forward to utilizing the lounge to its full potential – hosting, working and relaxing in this beautiful space.

On a roll with awards! We are happy to share that LM-ESP has received the 2026 Tenant Improvement of the Year Award in the renovation category from BOMA Manitoba! This award recognizes Café 360, located on the ground floor of Manitoba Hydro Place.

A great example of adaptive reuse in the downtown, our design for Café 360 transformed a dark, unused space into a vibrant and flexible social hub where employees, neighbours and visitors can gather, connect and relax. The approach prioritizes flexibility, sustainability and comfort. Overall, the project adds to the connection and liveliness of downtown.

The entire team played a big role in this project’s success, and we’re happy to see the hard work, collaboration and team effort recognized!

We’d like to warmly welcome four students to our office for the summer – Andree, Lauren, Rich, and Jana!

Andree is joining us for the first time after graduating from the Environmental Design program at U of M and is working on her Master’s of Interior Design. She has been working on education, corporate and community sector projects on the interior design side. Lauren is back for her third summer at LM-ESP and is on her way to completing her Master’s in Architecture. She has been contributing her skills and knowledge to a range of projects, including healthcare, education, commercial, and residential spaces. Rich joined us last summer on a part-time basis, and recently completed his first year of Master’s of Interior Design at U of M. He has been contributing his skills to education and workplace related projects. Jana is spending her second summer in our office, currently in the Master’s of Architecture program at U of M. So far this summer, she has been focusing on various recreation projects.

We’re excited to have such proactive, collaborative and bright students for the summer, and are grateful for our ongoing partnership with University of Manitoba and Faculty of Architecture | University of Manitoba.

LM-ESP team is growing! We are looking for a career-minded Accountant to join our studio on a full-time basis.
As a key member of the finance team, you will report to Senior Associate Accountant and Principals, and work closely with our multidisciplinary team of architects, interior designers, technologists and administrative staff.

If your qualifications and skills include:
• CPA designation or actively pursuing CPA designation through CPA Canada / Manitoba
• 3-5 years of professional accounting experience (preferred), preferably within professional services, architecture, engineering, or a similar project-driven environment
• Working knowledge of Canadian accounting standards (ASPE), payroll, GST/RST, and CRA reporting requirements
• Strong proficiency in accounting software – direct experience with Ajera, Deltek, or similar platforms is a strong asset
• Advanced Microsoft Excell and Microsoft 365 skills
