We live in an age where everything is tracked. From a business perspective it's useful for seeing where your customers come from and making sure you are advertising to the right people but when combined with all the other information that is casually collected it is ripe for abuse. Last fall I had the opportunity to testify at the Canadian Access to Information, Privacy and Ethics Committee in Ottawa on behalf of NAID Canada. Last week they adopted our suggestions.

Today is a day where we all talk about mental health. If we are really going to address the problem as employers then we have to accept the sometimes inconvenient issues and realize that if treated fairly and humanely everyone can participate fully in our society. How we act is way more important than what we tweet, post, and say.

I don't think this is the responsibility of the City of Winnipeg to pay for.

The firm responsible for processing all of Winnipeg’s recycling is asking for the city to up its contract by $1.5 million over two years so it can keep sending materials to China for recycling.

The city of Calgary is sitting on 5,000 tonnes of recyclables it can not find a market for. The solution is to make a good quality product that doesn't rely a country with poor environmental regulations and cheep labour to solve your problems.

The recycling community in North America is complaining that China has imposed the same contamination standards as North America has always had. I think it's pretty reasonable not wanting to be the dumping ground for North American waste anymore.

The proposed contamination standard was finalized by China’s Ministry of Environmental Protection (MEP) on January 11, remaining unchanged at 0.5 percent.

There is a lot that goes right in the world every day and we should stop and appreciate all of the people that tirelessly work in the background to make everything run. We had a large electrical transformer blow up last week and it was a bad morning but thankfully no one was hurt and everything that failed failed the way it was supposed to.

From that moment on there was a small army of electricians, insurance people, electrical engineers, City of Winnipeg inspectors, couriers, truck drivers and a host of others that all worked their butts off the week before the holidays to make sure we were functional.

It is so easy to find the things that go wrong and take for granted all of the things that go right every day. So to all of the people that work every day to make our live better, to help our business run smoothly, to keep our houses warm and the lights on - Thank You!

One of the paper mills we ship to took some down time for maintenance. This is what one week of office paper we collect looks like. After 26 years doing this I am still amazed at the amount of paper we use.

Phoenix has finally grown so much that our payroll has exceeded 1.25 million! Yea us! Now we pay an extra 4.5 % payroll tax. It was a stupid tax before we had to pay it, today it feels extra stupid..
