Have you noticed a change in your energy bill?
If you find yourself asking, "why is my bill so high this month?", there could be a few common reasons. Weâre here to help you understand. Before picking up the phone to call us (weâre experiencing high call volumes, wait times can be 30 to 60 minutes), see if the reasons below might apply to you.
This winter has been bitterly cold. In fact, itâs been about 25% colder than last winter. The extreme weather means your heating system is working hard to keep you comfortable at home, and space heating can account for up to 60% of your home energy bill. You can make some changes around your home to save this winter:
Adjust your thermostat at night and when youâre not home. Lowering the temperature by 3°C or more for at least eight hours a day can save up to 4% on your heating costs â itâs one of the most effective ways to save on energy bills in winter.
Change your furnace filter regularly (we recommend once every three months). Clogged filters can block airflow and reduce furnace efficiency.
Upgrade your insulation. Drafty windows and doors, and poor insulation can let the cold into your home. Not ready to make that investment? You can also try installing window insulation kits.
