20 Year Anniversary
June marks the 20 year anniversary that I successfully transitioned from student of massage therapy to remedial massage therapist.
in 1999 I was graduating from High school and was strongly encouraged to find my path by my mother. Like most high school students I had no idea where I was supposed to go. As fate would have it I had a teacher, Mr. Hudson, he brought me into a specialized program at Dakota collegiate called Recreational athletics, this program was loosley based along the principles of Physiotherapy. It was in grade 12 when Mr. Hudson also strongly encouraged me to go see a woman who was doing a presentation on massage therapy in the library for career day. I did, and the rest is history. Once I was in this demo I realized this was a path I had never considered before, nor knew nothing about. I went home to tell my mom that I finally knew what I wanted to be when I grew up....A Massage therapist! As you could imagine my mom was beyond thrilled that I would do something with my life and helped to enroll me in Wellington College Of Remedial Massage Therapies. I was and still am the youngest person to ever graduate from Wellington College. It was the first time in my life that I had found something that I was very interestd in. It was in my last year of College that I had a pivotal moment happen, my father had passed away from lung cancer. Up until this point in school every pathology (disease) could be chalked up to STRESS. In class one day I had asked a pointed question: "If stress can be the pre cursor to virtually every disease in the body, and if stress originates within the central nervous system, then why do we not treat the mind and the body at the same time?" the answer to the question was not satisfactory and lead me to seek out Craniosacral therapy. I sought out Craniosacral therapy because it was the first body treatment that acknowledged that the mind and the body was one. No seperation. I knew I had to explore this deeper. So I have dedicated the last 20 years of my life to delving into the mind body connection.
I have successfully completed Craniosacral therapy 1,2, Somatoemotional release 1,2 and various other courses, I have mulitiple training in myofacial release, cupping, aromatherapy, various stretching techniques, and various energy courses. Just to name a few.
I am still very deeply interested in the mind body connection.
So that has been my path for the last 20 years....I look forward to integrating these methods into your next treatments.
Thank you for supporting me in my growth and learning. I look forward to our next session!
Here is to another 20 years of growth, learning and understanding!
