Anyone who knows me well, knows of my love of the Union Jack! Its everywhere in my house. What you don't know about Jack is hidden in the picture.
This is the stage of our former theatre, we were doing a British play and I wanted Jack painted on the stage. Unfortunately I'd have to paint it myself and I was concerned about getting the angles right.
At the same time, we were housing an angry young man who was fighting addiction. Before I left for the theatre he stormed in the house swearing and slamming things around.
He yelled "Where's my knife!" I confronted him at the front door as he was about to leave again. He told me some guy disrespected him and now he was going to pay. He walked out and headed towards the street.
I asked God what to do. I chased after him. I called him by his full given name and told him to get back in the house, there would be no violence today.
He stopped and turned. Hung his head and came back. I held out my hand and he placed the switch blade in my palm gently.
I took him to the theatre. I asked him to help me paint the Union Jack on the stage. He said he preferred to work at it on his own. Six hours later, perfect angles and precise painting. His demeanor changed from angry to calm.
I praised him for coming to my rescue for what to me was going to be a tedious day of reworking angles. I also praised God for reworking the angles of this young man's day and rescuing him from a dark situation.
