During National School Safety Week October 17–23, we would like to remind students and parents to keep safety at the top of your minds. As you travel to school or work by car, bike, bus or scooter, please be aware of other vehicles around you.

Our commercial trucks travel through the community every day delivering services. Even when a driver is moving slowly, checking mirrors, and using backup alarms, there are areas around the vehicle where a pedestrian or biker may be invisible to the driver. Please keep your distance.

Road safety is a shared responsibility. Thank you, and stay safe!

Today, on the National Day for Truth and Reconciliation, we honour the Survivors of residential schools and remember the children who never returned home. The residential school system left a painful legacy for survivors, their families, & communities across the country.

As a YKDFN-owned company, we are committed to fostering economic stability and growth for our communities to establish a strong future, while recognizing the importance of truth, reconciliation, and healing.

Today, Det’on Cho Group of Companies walked alongside Naka Power in recognition of Truth and Reconciliation Day. Naka Power hosted this event, leading up to September 30th.

National Truth and Reconciliation Day is an important opportunity for our community to come together, reflect on the history and lasting impacts of residential schools, honour Survivors and their families, and listen to the truths that must continue to be heard.

Today, we walk together in remembrance, reflection, and hope for a future grounded in respect, healing, and reconciliation.

Yesterday, we welcomed YKDFN Elders and YKDFN Community Wellness staff for lunch at our new 9th-floor office in the Precambrian Building.

Following a delicious meal, we had the opportunity to tour our new space, introduce our employees from across various departments, and enjoy the views. Most importantly, we had time to connect, listen, and learn from the Elders.

Sharing our space and our work with knowledgeable Elders is an important part of building strong relationships and ensuring that the knowledge, experiences, and perspectives of generations continue to guide and inform our community. Elders carry invaluable wisdom rooted in culture, history, and lived experience, and creating opportunities to learn from them strengthens understanding, connection, and collaboration across generations.

At Det’on Cho, we are proud to help create spaces where generations can come together, share knowledge, and build community. We look forward to continuing these meaningful connections.

Please have a conversation with your children about the risks of biking, scootering or walking near large vehicles.

Our drivers operate large commercial trucks throughout our community every day and have significant blind spots. They may not see you, even though you can see them!

Road safety is a shared responsibility.
