Central Africa is emerging as a key player in global battery mineral supply chains, led by the DRC and Zambia’s copper and cobalt production.
The region supplies around 70% of the world’s cobalt and produces millions of tonnes of copper each year, yet much of the value from refining and processing is still realised outside Africa. Governments and investors are now pushing to change this through local processing, infrastructure investment and policy reform.
The challenge remains ex*****on — particularly energy availability and project financing.
