The National Food Strategy (Part One) does far too little to address the environmental impacts of food production. My latest blog post explains the good and the bad bits of the strategy.

The National Food Strategy Part 1 reviews Food Poverty, COVID-19 response, Brexit trade but focuses too little on food's relationship to the Climate Crisis.

Becoming an environmentally sound business isn't a ‘stand alone’ situation. To be an ethical business needs so much more. As well as environmental performance, sustainability involves all aspects of your value chain. For example, how promptly you pay your suppliers, or how you treat your people and everyone connected with you.

Each of these elements, and more, are incorporated into the ten components of the Good Business Charter, making it an all round accreditation.
I’m thrilled to share with you that Coral Mountain has been included on the Good Business Charter's page of helpful links. This listing is for working with companies to help them achieve the Environmental Responsibility component of the Charter.

Here's another in a series of posts on Minimise Monday's Impact ... Environmental Impact, of course!
Printing less.

Maybe it's stating the obvious, but we all slip into bad habits. So the message is a gentle reminder to only print when you need to.

Less printing means less paper, energy usage and also toner, all of which add up to cost savings.

In our current virtual world, I'd like to think that people are printing less. There are times when people prefer to read draft documents in print before publishing. If you are one of those people, try to stick to just one draft version, rather than many iterations.

Remember family members and encourage others in your household to print less too - although that can be a challenge (not that I am writing from personal experience of course!)

If the printing facilities are your responsibility in your business, once we're released from lockdown, there are lots of ways to encourage colleagues to print less, which saves money as well as the environment. I'd be delighted if you ask me more about what this entails.

While we're on lockdown, I'm going to post tips here and on LinkedIn, to help you reduce your environmental impact when working from home. Here's yesterday's LinkedIn post;

Minimise Monday's Impact - Environmental Impact that is!

Washing your clothes less...

The sun is shining, the birds are tweeting and the air smells fresher due to reduced pollution... While we're working from home, there are many things we can do to reduce our environmental impact. Things we can take forward, when we are allowed out again. One example is washing clothes less...

While no-one can go out much, clothes are generally not getting very dirty. Think about whether your really need to throw that sweatshirt into the wash basket.

It must be said that doing laundry is also a great reason to procrastinate from working! But did you know that every time you run a machine load, as many as 800,000 microfibres pollute the waterways! Then there's the water consumption and energy to heat the water.
Less washing = less pollution + your clothes remain in good shape for longer.

If you would like to know more about reducing your business's environmental impact, message me. Let's start a conversation and see where it takes us.

Tonight, while we face exceptionally challenging times, please think about the state of our planet. Find a few candles for this year's Earth Hour so you can switch lights off between 8.30 - 9.30pm.

Before the Coronavirus crisis, every news bulletin included an article about the state of the environment, but right now it's as if the issues have evaporated. The climate crisis has not gone away - it still needs to be addressed.

Right now, rhe air is clearer and the birds can be heard, as we experience lockdown. This is a wake up call , a false dawn, a sign of what could be. It's also an opportunity to reset behaviours and expectations, to appreciate family first, and not material things.

Humanity WILL defeat Coronavirus (whilst sadly losing too many). Let's remember there's another vital healing job to be done, which will also save many lives.

Join up across the world

Join millions of people around the world and switch off your lights in support of nature and our planet on Saturday, 28 March, 2020 at 8:30pm.
