Two days ago, I received the news that, for the second consecutive year, my photographic work has been recognized with the Highly Commended Artist distinction at the Homiens Art Prize 2026.

This year’s submission, “Shaped by Flows”, brings together three photographs exploring the relationship between human beings and the flows that shape our world.

Receiving this recognition for a second time means a great deal to me. It is an encouraging acknowledgment of my artistic work and a motivation to continue exploring photography as a means of expression.

Vor zwei Tagen erhielt ich die Nachricht, dass meine fotografische Arbeit beim Homiens Art Prize 2026 zum zweiten Mal in Folge mit der Auszeichnung “Highly Commended Artist” gewürdigt wurde.

Meine diesjährige Einreichung, Shaped by Flows, umfasst drei Fotografien, die sich mit dem Verhältnis zwischen dem Menschen und den Strömungen, die unsere Welt prägen, auseinandersetzen.

Diese erneute Anerkennung bedeutet mir viel und ist für mich eine wertvolle Ermutigung, meinen künstlerischen Weg weiterzugehen.

A walk along the Rhine in Basel, in the last summer sun, as the temperatures begin to fall and autumn starts to make itself felt, can still offer unexpected moments.

A chance to slow down, let the city recede for a while, get lost in your own thoughts, and enjoy those small encounters that can suddenly change the mood of an ordinary afternoon.

As the seasons change, so does the atmosphere around us and, perhaps, our idea of what is beautiful. Different light, different moods, different ways of experiencing familiar places.

Ein Spaziergang am Rhein in Basel, in der letzten Sommersonne, während die Temperaturen langsam sinken und sich der Herbst bemerkbar macht, kann immer noch unerwartete Momente schenken.

Eine Gelegenheit, langsamer zu werden, die Stadt für eine Weile hinter sich zu lassen, sich in den eigenen Gedanken zu verlieren und jene kleinen Begegnungen zu geniessen, die plötzlich die Stimmung eines ganz gewöhnlichen Nachmittags verändern können.

Mit den Jahreszeiten verändert sich auch die Atmosphäre um uns herum und vielleicht auch unsere Vorstellung davon, was schön ist. Anderes Licht, andere Stimmungen, andere Arten, vertraute Orte zu erleben.

Some days I photograph Basel as a place.
Other days, I barely notice the city at all.

What catches me is something smaller: a scene that lasts a few seconds, an unexpected arrangement, someone briefly becoming part of the picture.

Lately, there have been quite a few of those days.

An manchen Tagen fotografiere ich Basel als Ort.
An anderen nehme ich die Stadt selbst kaum wahr.

Dann fällt mir etwas Kleineres auf: eine Szene, die nur ein paar Sekunden dauert, eine unerwartete Konstellation, jemand, der für einen kurzen Moment Teil des Bildes wird.

In letzter Zeit gab es ziemlich viele solcher Tage.

There is something about late summer evenings along the Rhine in Basel. Sitting with a friend Myagmarsuren Gantulga.R 🇨🇭 over an aperitif at one of the many little kiosks and buvettes, the city seems to change as the sun gets lower. Glass catches fire, a flower glows against the dark, faces turn golden. Around you, conversations overlap, someone laughs at the next table, and for a while the warmth seems to belong as much to the people as it does to the light.

And that light finds everyone differently. While some gather by the river, somewhere above the street someone has found another way to enjoy the last of the sun: feet up, hidden behind a balcony, asking nothing more from the evening.

These are the days I want to hold on to for a little longer. Because soon the sun will disappear earlier behind the rooftops, the tables along the Rhine will slowly empty, and the warmth, voices and laughter of summer evenings will fade as autumn takes their place.

Spätsommerabende am Rhein in Basel haben etwas Besonderes. Bei einem Apéro mit einem Freund Myagmarsuren Gantulga.R 🇨🇭 alker.fotografie an einem der vielen kleinen Kioske und Buvetten verändert sich die Stadt, sobald die Sonne tiefer steht. Glas beginnt zu leuchten, eine Blume hebt sich warm vom dunklen Hintergrund ab, Gesichter werden golden. Rundherum vermischen sich Gespräche, vom Nebentisch hört man jemanden lachen, und für eine Weile scheint die Wärme genauso zu den Menschen zu gehören wie zum Licht.

Und dieses Licht findet jeden auf eine andere Art. Während sich die einen am Rhein treffen, hat irgendwo über der Strasse jemand einen ganz eigenen Weg gefunden, die letzten Sonnenstrahlen zu geniessen: die Füsse hochgelegt, hinter einem Balkon verborgen, und für diesen Abend braucht es offenbar nicht mehr.

Es sind diese Tage, die ich noch ein wenig festhalten möchte. Denn bald wird die Sonne früher hinter den Dächern verschwinden, die Tische am Rhein werden sich langsam leeren, und mit dem nahenden Herbst werden auch die Wärme, die Stimmen und das Lachen der Sommerabende langsam verklingen.

August 12, 2026. Everyone who happened to be along the path where the solar eclipse was visible, even if only partially, did everything they could to admire its beauty and majesty. Special glasses, filters, or protective sheets were used to safeguard their cameras and safely observe this phenomenon. Even I, despite having a slight sore throat, wanted to take part in this ritual by doing one of the things I love most: taking photos and recording videos.

12. August 2026. Jeder, der sich zufällig entlang der Bahn befand, auf der die Sonnenfinsternis zu sehen war – und sei es nur teilweise –, tat alles, um ihre Schönheit und Erhabenheit zu bewundern. Mit Spezialbrillen, Filtern oder Schutzfolien wurden die Kameras geschützt, um dieses Phänomen sicher beobachten zu können. Selbst ich wollte, obwohl ich leichte Halsschmerzen hatte, an diesem Ritual teilnehmen, indem ich eines der Dinge tat, die ich am meisten liebe: Fotos machen und Videos aufnehmen.

While working on the Basel Tattoo portrait project, which I’ve recently shared in some posts, I came across this scene along the banks of the Rhine near Kaserne.

A boat from was towing some wakeboarders, and the beautiful evening light made the moment impossible to ignore.

I couldn’t just walk by without taking a few photos.

When was the last time you felt that way, and what did you end up photographing?

Während ich am Porträtprojekt des Basel Tattoo arbeitete, über das ich in den letzten Tagen einige Beiträge geteilt habe, stieß ich am Rheinufer in der Nähe der Kaserne auf diese Szene.

Ein Boot von zog einige Wakeboarder über den Rhein, und das wunderschöne Abendlicht machte diesen Moment einfach unmöglich zu ignorieren.

Ich konnte einfach nicht vorbeigehen, ohne ein paar Fotos zu machen.

Wann hattet ihr das letzte Mal genau dieses Gefühl, und was habt ihr am Ende fotografiert?

2026 has come to an end, bringing to a close a project that started with a simple idea and turned into an unforgettable experience.

Over the past days, I had the privilege of meeting incredible people from all over the world. Every portrait, every conversation, every smile, and every challenge along the way became part of a journey that I will remember for a long time. Even when things didn’t go according to plan, solving problems through communication, trust, and teamwork made the experience even more rewarding.

What impressed me most was the response from the participants. Seeing so many people genuinely excited to take part, hearing their feedback, and watching them encourage others to join us showed me that this idea had become something much bigger than I had expected.

More importantly, it reminded me how much I enjoy experiencing moments like these.

That’s why I hope this won’t be the last time. Seeing how people embraced this project made me want to continue developing it and bring it to other events in the future.

To everyone who took part in this project, thank you. Your enthusiasm, trust, and genuine excitement transformed a simple idea into an unforgettable experience. I truly hope our paths will cross again.

It was a real pleasure to photograph Joe and Luke of the Irish Guards Band.

Thank you both for your genuine enthusiasm and for choosing to take part in this portrait project. Your willingness to step in front of the camera and your positive attitude made this experience truly memorable.

The Irish Guards were formed in 1900 by Queen Victoria in recognition of the bravery of Irish soldiers during the Boer War. Their Regimental Band was established one year later and this year proudly celebrates its 125th anniversary. They are instantly recognisable by the St Patrick’s Blue plume, buttons grouped in fours, and the shamrock worn on the collar.

It was an honour to photograph a small part of this remarkable tradition during the 20th anniversary of Basel Tattoo

Another evening, another unforgettable portrait session in Basel.

This evening, we had the pleasure of photographing members of Blue Devils International performers from 🇳🇴 His Majesty The King’s Guard Band & Drill and 🇴🇲 Royal Guard of Oman as well as members of the 🇨🇭 Schweizer Militärmusik . Every session brings new faces, new stories, and new opportunities to create timeless portraits.

A heartfelt thank you to everyone who stepped in front of our cameras. Your openness, trust, and enthusiasm continue to make this project an unforgettable experience.
