The World Cup clock is ticking.
This Thursday, the 2026 Football World Cup kicks off at the iconic Estadio Azteca — now known as Estadio Banorte in Mexico City. Following what will undoubtedly be a memorable opening ceremony, host nation Mexico will face South Africa in the tournament’s opening match.
Excitement is building, expectations are high, and the pressure is on for everyone involved.
One thing, however, is already ready for the world stage: the playing surface.
As part of the stadium’s extensive renovation, the pitch was completely rebuilt last year. GrassMax Systems’ experienced construction, installation, and maintenance partner, Royal Verd, delivered a field built to the highest standards that a tournament of this magnitude requires and deserves.
The pitch is reinforced with GrassMax Systems’ hybrid grass technology, providing the durability and performance needed to withstand the intense playing schedule of a World Cup. Unlike many tournament venues where hybrid reinforcement is installed only for the event itself, Estadio Banorte will continue to benefit from this technology long after the final whistle.
As the home of Club América, Cruz Azul, and the Mexican National Team, the stadium hosts an exceptionally demanding calendar throughout the year. Maintaining a world-class playing surface is therefore not just a tournament requirement—it’s a long-term necessity.
For GrassMax Systems, this marks a special milestone: it is the second consecutive Football World Cup in which the tournament’s opening match will be played on a pitch reinforced with GrassMax technology. The opening game of the 2022 Football World Cup in Qatar was played at Al Bayt Stadium, where the same technology delivered outstanding performance throughout the tournament and continues to support the playing surface today.As GrassMax, we are extremely proud to be part of this amazing venue and to contribute to the stage on which some of the world’s greatest football moments will unfold. Proud to share that the first hybrid grass pitch in Zambia has been successfully installed.
Together with our partner Sporturf, a brand-new pitch was installed this winter at the iconic National Heroes Stadium in Lusaka, featuring GrassMax hybrid stitching technology.
It was a challenging project, but through strong collaboration we delivered a great result.

SC Buitenboys in Almere now plays on a hybrid pitch. Hybrid GrassMax pitches are no longer exclusively reserved for top level clubs like Real Madrid, PSG, or Leicester City. Since November, the amateur players of SC Buitenboys can also enjoy such a pitch, thanks to an investment by the municipality of Almere on field 6 in the Polderkwartier. Additionally, field 4 at Klein Brandt, used by AS80, has been upgraded with hybrid reinforcement in the goal areas.

GrassMax Systems has completed the installation of its first hybrid pitch in Luxembourg. Designed and constructed by 3S Tech to meet the highest standards, the new pitch offers FC UNA Strassen a top-quality facility. The project was made possible with support from the Strassen City Council.
During the installation also a succesful demo-event was hosted by the club and 3 S Tech, in cooperation with GrassMax Systems, CoverMaster, Raw Stadia and I.A.G.E.

At GrassMax Systems we have many reasons to be proud. Set up in August 2019, now 5 years further we have reached our 1.000.000th m² of GrassMax stitched hybrid turf technology.
And the venue where we reached this couldn’t be more symbolic or iconic : Real Madrid’s Estadio Santiago Bernabeu.
For the first time this innovative retractable pitch was reinforced with GrassMax stitching technology. A challenging but succesful installation in only 5 days.

Turkish teams Beşiktaş JK, Başakşehir FK and Kayserispor are gearing up for both European and national competitions.

Together with our Turkish partner FBK Yapi Ve Dis Tic Ltd, we have just installed 2 new hybrid training pitches for Beşiktaş JK, as well as their new stadium pitch in Tüpraş Stadyumu. Başakşehir FK got a new stadium pitch at the Fatih Terim Stadyumu, and Kayserispor got their first hybrid pitch at the RHG Enertürk Enerji Stadyumu.

Big applause to the GrassMax installation team who travelled from project to project and not only performed fantastically, but also interacted a lot with the FBK teams and local stadium staff.
