Do we need a new word for "retirement"?

Interesting observation when people ask me about our Plan Onwards workshop. When telling them it focuses on preparing you when you transition from one life routine to another ( i.e. Change of jobs, empty nest syndrome or retirement)the first reaction is "oh retirement , no not there yet". And to be honest, they were prime candidates for the workshop.
It is clear that the word " retire" can have some negative connotations, associated with words such as old, uselessness and end of working life. How can we change this perception, that if you plan towards any transition it can be so exciting & full of possibilities?
Do they shy away from being associated with the word "retirement" or the thought of retirement?
Would be interested to hear what you think.

Years ago, I had the privilege of counseling at an old age home. It was there, that I learned the most valuable lesson that would influence the way I thought about our later years.
The advice given to the 20 year old me was simple: honor the past, live in the present and plan for the future. Take risks, live with no regrets and envision the lifestyle you want to have in your later life now, when you are young and have years to plan.
