After 12 years of marriage as a party of 2, we’re upgrading to a family of 3!👶👫

➡️Q: When is your baby due?
A: Baby Aplin is expected in December!

➡️Q: How are you feeling? How is your baby?
A: Mom and baby are healthy! (Dad is doing great too😉) The first month was super rough ( ), but we’ve had zero complications or concerns. It’s been a miracle in the making!

➡️Q: Are you having a boy or girl? What’s the name? Can we see a photo?
A: Although our little one is still snuggled inside the womb, we have decided not to share their name or face online. This might change in the future, but thank you for understanding and respecting our decision in this season.

➡️Q: Where will you have the baby: the USA or Switzerland?
A: We’re having the baby in Switzerland. We live here full-time now (since May 2023) and have Swiss health insurance.

➡️Q: Is it expensive to have a baby in Switzerland?
A: Thankfully, nope! It will cost us 0.00 CHF to have a baby, thanks to Swiss health insurance. We also both get some paid parental leave as well as a monthly child stipend to help with recurring expenses.

➡️Q: Will you have help after the baby is born?
A: Our parents have graciously and joyfully said they will come to help. Jana’s parents will be here in January and Brett’s parents will come sometime after that.

➡️Q: Will you take time off work after you have the baby?
A: Yes. Switzerland offers paid parental leave. Brett will take 2 weeks of paternity leave and Jana will take up to 14 weeks (depending on how she feels and what our baby needs). Our amazing assistant, Rebekah, will be handling all communications while we’re offline.

Learning how to cross country ski!

This is our FIRST winter in Switzerland❄️, and it been fun to try out all of the winter sports! (It doesn’t snow much in Tennessee so we didn’t learn as kids)

We took a beginner group cross country skiing class! 2 hours learning how to put on gear, ski up and down hills, how to go faster and brake faster, etc.

Oh, and the included fondue 🫕 lunch after class was the perfect way to refuel from playing on the snow.

Our experience: Brett likes to go fast, Jana is slow and steady. 🤣

Our thoughts: we’d totally take another class like this!

➡️ Also on our list:
🛷sledding
🥾snowshoeing
🎿skiing (for Brett)
🏂and snowboarding (for Jana)

❓What winter sport would you like to try in Switzerland? (Yes, winter walking trails count as a winter sport, in our opinion.)

Joy! Every time I look at this photo, I see us beaming with genuine joy.

This was on the exact day that we moved to Switzerland back in May.

That was 6 months ago, and today we’re still filled with gratitude AND joy!

Why? Because we continually talk about how our ancestors made an international move a hundred years ago (ahem, before technology!).

And because of their move, we are able to move back to Europe.

Because God has written our story to be so saturated in Switzerland that our job allows us to genuinely helps others. It’s a joy!

Yet here we are today, back in Tennessee with family celebrating the holidays. (We mash up Thanksgiving and Christmas all together 🙃)

We know its not Christmas or Easter, but God sure is generous! And what a moment to be grateful!

➡️➡️➡️Thank you for being a part of our story. We are grateful for your friendship, encouragement, and trust! 😌

Harder Kulm is great for…

🌅 Sunset! You can watch the sun shine on the mountains in golden light.

🫕 Fondue. Disclaimer: we’ve never had fondue here 🤣 but so many people order it up here, it smells great, and it’s affordable.

🍃Shoulder seasons. Spring and Autumn are lovely up here at Harder Kulm!

⭐️Evenings. If you don’t know what to do after dinner, head up to Harder Kulm. It’s one of the only mountain transportation options open late in the Jungfrau Region!

😱A cliff walk! If you can’t make it to the Birg Cliff Walk (or favorite in this area) or Grindelwald First, then this is a good option. It’s a safe metal walkway and panoramic platform!

➡️➡️ What do you like about Harder Kulm?

The castles (and food) in Loire Valley, France!

Whether you enjoy architecture, history, gardens, or villages, there’s something for everyone in Loire!

We toured a few chateau, walked through lush gardens, and wandered through a handful of towns.

Also visited a winery owned by one of my dad’s friends and tasted our favorite meal of the entire trip (Restaurant L’Ecluse in Amboise)

We followed the Meet The Sheep Trail from Rotenboden to Riffelberg (along the Gornergrat railway) to find the famous blacknosed sheep!

P.S. Yes, we’re writing a Zermatt Itinerary and Travel Guide! Stay tuned 🤓
