Founded in 2001, Insight China is an initiative at the University of Applied Sciences and Arts Northwestern Switzerland.

This project provides ambitious students with a unique opportunity to delve into China’s vibrant cultural and economic landscape. With its 20th anniversary in 2021, the prestigious project of Insight China is the oldest International Student Project at the University of Applied Sciences and Arts Northwestern Switzerland (FHNW). The aim of Insight China is the transfer of knowledge between the dele

gation of students and the companies that are involved in the project to create and strengthen the foundation of doing business in China.

🎥 Insight China 2024/25 – A Journey to Remember

10 months ago, on July 2nd, 2024, six students started out as strangers — brought together by chance and purpose, as the Project & Communications Team of Insight China.

What followed was a whirlwind of collaboration, creativity, and commitment. Together, we worked tirelessly to shape and deliver an unforgettable edition of Insight China — one filled with meaningful encounters, eye-opening experiences, and an incredible delegation that made it all worthwhile.

From in-depth company visits and expert panels during our Swiss Seminar, to exploring China’s innovation hubs and rich cultural heritage during the Seminar Abroad — this project connected the dots between business, technology, culture, and friendship.

Insight China 2025 | Third Stop: Shenzhen

🤖Our journey through Shenzhen was a deep dive into one of China’s most dynamic innovation hubs — filled with learning, inspiration, and a glimpse into the future of technology.

🏢At Futian Service Station For Foreign Enterprises, we discovered how Shenzhen acts as a gateway for international businesses looking to enter the Chinese market — offering support structures and infrastructure that enable rapid development and integration. We also got a glimpse into the future of urban living by observing how drone food delivery works in real-time, topped off with a chance to taste a freshly delivered milk tea — an unexpected but very welcome surprise!

⚡️Our visit to NIO was a true highlight. Welcomed with refreshments and hospitality, we explored their mission to redefine mobility through electric vehicles. Their storytelling, combined with insights into their design philosophy and smart features, reflected a powerful blend of innovation and vision.

🎓At Shenzhen Technology University (SZTU), students and faculty guided us through impressive labs — from solar energy research and drone engineering to E-Formula racing and next-gen train technologies. It was inspiring to see hands-on education fueling the next generation of engineers and innovators.

🏥We wrapped up with a visit to EDAN Instruments, Inc. where we explored cutting-edge healthcare technologies designed for efficient, scalable solutions in diagnostics and patient monitoring. Their commitment to improving global healthcare access through smart devices was especially impactful.

A heartfelt thank you to all our hosts for sharing their time, expertise, and vision. Shenzhen truly showcased the power of innovation, collaboration, and forward-thinking development.

Insight China 2025 | Second Stop: Shanghai

Swiss–Chinese Collaboration: Where Innovation Meets Opportunity

From exploring ABB’s fully automated robot factory to hearing Michael Lehmann's 20-year journey in China with SIM Consulting, the past days were packed with insights into what makes Swiss–Chinese business collaboration so unique.

We talked strategy with InterChina | Strategy | Corporate Finance, saw global integration in action at Endress+Hauser Gruppe, and discussed work culture and innovation at Swissnex in China.

From Lufthansa's sustainability efforts to NIO’s vision of future mobility—every visit highlighted how resilience, adaptability, and shared values drive success in an evolving market.

Insight China had the honor of being welcomed by Ambassador Juerg Burri, who, together with Céline Badertscher, Estelle Vuichard, and Marius Stucki, hosted us at the Embassy of Switzerland in Beijing.

The delegation was provided with thought-provoking insights into Swiss-Chinese relations — spanning historical developments, current political dynamics, and future outlooks.

Following the presentations, we engaged in an enriching discussion with the embassy team, gaining a deeper understanding of the realities of diplomatic work and international cooperation.

We are truly grateful for the warm hospitality and openness that made this visit not only informative, but genuinely inspiring.

Insight China 2025 | First Stop: Beijing

We’ve just wrapped up the first part of our Insight China seminar abroad —and what a start it has been!

From walking through the historical heart of Beijing 🏯 — The Forbidden City, Tiananmen Square, the Summer Palace, and the Great Wall of China — to enjoying a traditional Peking Duck dinner🥢, this journey has already been full of memorable moments.

On the professional side, we visited Siemens, gaining valuable insights into their digital learning initiatives, employee-driven innovation culture, and production site operations 🤖🏭.

Beijing has truly set the bar high — and there's more to come! (Stay tuned for a separate highlight about our time in Beijing 👀)

Following a night of clicking tracks aboard the train 🚄🌃, we've arrived in Shanghai — and the next chapter of our journey is just getting started!

🌏 Global Trade, Augmented Reality & Tech Innovation – Day 4 of Seminar CH 🌏

From Switzerland’s role in global trade to the transformative power of augmented
reality and China’s evolving tech landscape, today’s discussions provided valuable
perspectives on the future of business and innovation.

📌 Felix Rosenberger from SECO shared insights into Switzerland’s strategic position
in international trade, highlighting its three-pillar approach: multilateral engagement
through the WTO, bilateral agreements with the EU, and preferential trade agreements
worldwide. Sustainability remains a key focus, alongside evolving export and import
trends, particularly in Switzerland’s growing trade relationships with Asia.

🚀 Ivo Strohhammer from Siemens explored the potential of augmented reality and
the industrial metaverse, where IoT, AI, and digital twins are redefining industries. From
product development to training and remote collaboration, these technologies are
already transforming the way we work. Delegates even had the chance to experience
the future firsthand with Apple Vision Pro.

🔎 Michael Jeive and Fiona Gao led an engaging discussion on China’s high-tech
innovations and the opportunities for Sino-European collaboration. With strong
potential in industries like pharma, manufacturing, and telecommunications, the
conversation shed light on both the opportunities and challenges of working across
different business cultures.

The day wrapped up with great discussions, new perspectives, and a networking apéro
to reflect on the insights shared. Exciting times ahead!
