Wenn Bauteile fast 11 Meter Durchmesser erreichen, beginnt eine neue Dimension der Bearbeitung.

Genau vor dieser Herausforderung steht der dänische Hersteller HACO bei Komponenten für die nächste Generation von Offshore-Windturbinen. Rotorgehäuse mit einem Gewicht von 50 bis 90 Tonnen gehören ebenso dazu wie große Frontplatten, Statorplatten und Bremsscheiben.
Die Lösung: ein XXL-Bearbeitungskonzept, das die Stärken von Droop+Rein und Dörries zusammenbringt.

Die Gantry-Portalmaschine vereint Fräsen und Drehen in einem Bearbeitungszentrum. Im Zentrum steht ein 180 Tonnen schwerer hydrostatischer Rundtisch, ausgelegt für Lasten bis zu 350 Tonnen. 12.600 mm Ständerabstand und 14.000 mm Verfahrweg der Gantry-Achse machen deutlich, welche Dimensionen hier beherrscht werden.
Doch Größe allein reicht nicht.

Die Kombination aus Fräsen und Drehen ermöglicht die Komplettbearbeitung mit weniger Aufspannungen und hoher Präzision, selbst über meterlange Verfahrwege. Für HACO ist das die passende Antwort auf immer größere Komponenten für die Offshore-Windindustrie.

Denn wenn die Bauteile wachsen, muss auch die Bearbeitung neue Dimensionen erreichen.

A 26-year-old machine. A replacement already budgeted. And a decision that went a different way.

At NEUMAN & ESSER, the plan was clear: replace a Dörries CONTUMAT vertical turning machine that had been in operation for more than two decades. But when the machine was assessed more closely, one thing stood out: its mechanical foundation was still exceptionally solid.

Rather than tearing out a proven machine, NEUMAN & ESSER and Starrag chose a comprehensive retrofit. The machine received a new Siemens control system, modern drives and completely updated electrical equipment, while retaining the precision and stability that had earned the trust of operators for years.

The result was not a completely different machine.
It was the same machine people knew, now equipped for the years ahead. Most importantly, production restarted quickly and operators were back to work almost immediately.

As Simon Prell, Head of Machining at NEUMAN & ESSER, puts it: "We were productive immediately. That was actually the strongest benefit for me."

One minute saved with every pallet change. Almost 20% of the cycle time at this stage. No reduction in milling time required.

At PÖTTINGER, finished components are now cleaned at a separate setup station rather than inside the machining center. While one component is being cleaned, the machine can already begin the next operation.

This process improvement is part of a new flexible manufacturing system comprising four Heckert H75 machining centers, 134 pallet storage positions and 1,040 tools available across the system.

A digital twin, advance testing at Starrag’s Chemnitz facility and close cooperation between the project partners helped make the complete changeover possible within just twelve weeks.

Today, the Heckert H75 installed in this system is designated as the Heckert H70 in Starrag’s portfolio.

What proves the quality of a large machining center? Not its size, but how it performs year after year.

At NEUMAN & ESSER, a Droop+Rein T has been machining extremely heavy and demanding components since 2011. Complete machining in a single setup reduces reclamping and potential sources of error. The result: machining times reduced by an average of 30 to 40 percent depending on component size, and bearing-line tolerances improved from 40 µm to 20 µm.

25 Kolleginnen und Kollegen, ein gemeinsames Ziel und jede Menge Teamgeist.

Beim diesjährigen RUN & FUN Firmenlauf in Mönchengladbach war das Team Starrag mit 21 Läuferinnen und Läufern sowie 4 Walkern am Start. Auf den 5,2 Kilometern rund um den Nordpark ging es natürlich auch um sportliche Leistungen, vor allem aber um das, was unseren Standort ausmacht: Zusammenhalt, gegenseitige Unterstützung und Spaß als Team.

Ob auf der Strecke, an der Seitenlinie oder beim gemeinsamen Ausklang danach: Überall war zu spüren, wie stark das Miteinander bei Starrag gelebt wird. Jeder lief sein eigenes Rennen, aber niemand war alleine unterwegs.

Auch sportlich gab es starke Ergebnisse. Unser schnellster Läufer erreichte das Ziel nach beeindruckenden 22:01 Minuten, unser schnellster Walker nach 39:54 Minuten. Unser Werksleiter belegte unter 182 teilnehmenden Chefs einen hervorragenden 38. Platz.

Besonders schön: Mit unserer Teilnahme haben wir gleichzeitig eine Veranstaltung unterstützt, die Vereine und gemeinnützige Projekte in der Region fördert.

Ein großes Dankeschön an alle Kolleginnen und Kollegen, die dabei waren und diesen Abend zu etwas Besonderem gemacht haben. Die Laufschuhe müssen jetzt aber nicht allzu lange im Schrank verschwinden, denn eines steht schon heute fest: Beim Firmenlauf 2027 wollen wir wieder gemeinsam an den Start gehen.
