What happens when creating technology is no longer just an IT team's job? bit.ly/4iHikwL

As AI makes powerful tools accessible to more people across an organisation, the opportunity to experiment, automate and build new solutions is expanding. But greater autonomy also brings new questions around governance, security, skills and responsibility.

In his recent article published by SAPO, Gavin Rotach, Head of Group IT at Zühlke, explores three trends reshaping technology leadership:
🔹 Technology creation is becoming more democratic
🔹 IT teams are moving from control to enablement
🔹 Using AI critically is becoming a core professional skill

The challenge for technology leaders? Creating the conditions for people to innovate while making sure they can do so safely and responsibly. And there’s an opportunity to be part of that journey. Gavin is currently growing his team in Porto!

What does it take to prepare the next generation of engineers for a world where security is everyone’s responsibility? 🔐

For seven academic years, our colleagues in Serbia have been working alongside the , University of Belgrade (ETF), on its Master’s-level Secure Software Development course. Our engineers have helped shape the course and continue to contribute to its laboratory exercises, connecting academic foundations with the methods, challenges, and good practices engineers encounter when building software in the real world.

Over the years, we’ve also seen something encouraging: interest in secure software development has grown considerably. What started with 32 students in 2019 has grown to 213 students today - with a total of 900+ students through the years.

A huge thank you to every colleague who has contributed to this course since 2019, sharing their expertise and investing countless hours along the way. We hope seeing how far this collaboration has come makes you proud of what you’ve built - your contribution has already made a difference, and we’re sure its impact will continue well into the future. 💜

If we have more technology than ever before, why do so many organisations still feel less productive? bit.ly/4hcNTxR

In her latest opinion article for Vida Económica, Ana Tavares, Internal Communications Manager at Zühlke in Portugal, explores the productivity paradox and why lasting productivity is about much more than adopting the latest AI tools.

She shares insights on:
🔹 Why productivity today is about making better decisions - not just working faster
🔹 How AI should empower people rather than replace them
🔹 Why trust, continuous learning, and experimentation are key to successful AI adoption
🔹 The crucial role leaders play in building cultures where people and technology thrive together

As Ana highlights, the organisations that will succeed won't necessarily be those with the most AI - but those that use it to unlock the full potential of their people. Read the full article (in Portuguese) via the link above 👆

When you see colleagues running around the office in their socks, you know something fun is happening. 😄 Over the past month, our colleagues in Portugal traded their desks for games, challenges, and a healthy dose of friendly competition during the Zühlke Cup 2026. ⚽

Inspired by the spirit of the World Cup, the Zühlke Cup brought together 26 colleagues from 5 teams for a month of activities designed to strengthen connections, stay active, and have fun. From foosball and Pictionary to dodgeball, plus step, running, and activity challenges, every event was another opportunity to collaborate beyond our day-to-day work.

And together, we achieved some impressive numbers:
👟 Nearly 3 million steps
🏃 556 km walked and run
⏱️ 141 hours of activity
💜 Countless shared laughs and memorable moments

A huge thank you to everyone who joined the fun, and a special shout-out to Melissa Pinho and Rita Silva for bringing the Zühlke Cup to life, to Isabel Cortez for supporting communications, and to Bárbara Martins and Thaís Costa for always being ready to lend a hand.

Here's to more moments that keep us moving, laughing, and growing together - both inside and outside the office. 🏆

Do legacy systems ever truly get switched off? 🤔

Modernisation programmes often promise to replace ageing technology, but the reality is that many legacy systems remain running long after the programme has officially ended, adding further cost, complexity, and risk.

The difficulty of fully retiring legacy systems is another challenging reality highlighted by senior technologists working across regulated industries. Watch the full webinar, in which Zühlke’s UK CEO Angela Bishop raises this issue and others: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=H3ev_7aYW6k&t=2349s

Last week, we had the pleasure of welcoming the Associação Salvador team to our Porto office for a full day of internal working sessions. 💜

Associação Salvador has been a valued partner of ours for several years, providing guidance and expertise as we continue to improve the accessibility of our office and create a more inclusive environment for everyone. Their visit was also a meaningful opportunity to exchange ideas, experiences, and perspectives, while strengthening a partnership built on shared values and a commitment to inclusion.

Thank you to the Associação Salvador team for spending the day with us, and to everyone who helped create such a warm and welcoming atmosphere!

Take a look at a few moments from the day above. 📸

Does successful digital transformation start with technology or with people? https://bit.ly/4fk1ukl

In his latest opinion piece for SAPO, Frederico Junqueira, Lead Software Architect at Zühlke in Portugal, shares why lasting digital transformation is driven not just by technology or AI, but by people, culture, and leadership.

He explores:
🔹 Why digital transformation is first and foremost a people challenge
🔹 How AI can accelerate change - but not replace human judgment
🔹 The importance of empowering teams to embrace new ways of working
🔹 Why successful transformation depends on trust, collaboration, and continuous learning

Last week, our colleagues from the UK took part in the 50th edition of the J.P. Morgan Corporate Challenge in London, joining thousands of participants for one of the world's largest corporate running events.

A huge congratulations to Elizabeth McCann, Hardik Trivedi, and Viraj Wagh, who laced up their running shoes and brought Zühlke's team spirit to every step of the race. Your enthusiasm reflects what makes our community special: supporting one another, embracing challenges, and enjoying the journey together.

Here's to many more miles, milestones, and moments shared as one team. 💜

At the end of June, our team in Serbia came together for a relaxed summer evening at Smokvica Ada. No presentations, no project updates - just great conversations, shared laughter, delicious food, refreshing drinks, and the opportunity to reconnect outside of our everyday work. ☀️

Whether catching up with familiar faces or getting to know new colleagues, evenings like these remind us that the relationships we build are just as important as the work we do.

A big thank you to everyone who joined us and made this summer get-together so enjoyable! 💜

Take a look at the photos above for a glimpse of the atmosphere! 🍹📸

What an evening! 🚀A huge thank you to everyone who joined us last Tuesday at our Belgrade office and made it another memorable gathering of our engineering community.

A special thank you to our speakers - Viktorija Filipović Tošić, Milan Starčević, Novak Tadić, and Veljko Zrnić - for sharing their experiences, practical insights, and honest perspectives on how AI is changing the way we design, review, deliver, and optimise software systems.

The lightning talks sparked thoughtful questions, meaningful discussions, and conversations that continued long after the presentations ended - exactly what a meetup is all about. 💜

🎥 Check out the video above for a glimpse of the atmosphere, highlights, and great moments we shared. See you again after the summer!
