🎓What brings doctoral researchers to the Vienna Doctoral Workshop?

For Mario Protulipac, Project Management Expert & Trainer, the workshop is an opportunity to further develop his doctoral research and explore how PMOs can contribute to sustainable organizational development.

Reflecting on what he hopes to gain from the workshop, Mario shares:

“I’m attending the Vienna Doctoral Workshop at an important stage in my doctoral journey, as I prepare my research topic proposal. My research explores the role of PMOs and structural coherence in aligning organizational structures, governance mechanisms, and project practices with the Sustainable Development Goals.

From a scientific perspective, I aim to contribute to a better understanding of how PMOs can influence an organization’s ability to achieve its sustainability objectives. I am particularly interested in identifying the actors, structures, and organizational conditions that support PMOs in this role, as well as the potential barriers and opposing forces that may limit their contribution.

Through the workshop, I hope to strengthen the technical and methodological foundations of my research, receive practical guidance from experienced faculty, and refine my topic into a clear, focused, and defensible doctoral research direction.”

The workshop, presented in collaboration with Alma Mater Europaea and Stellenbosch University, brings doctoral researchers together for focused research development, expert guidance, and international exchange.

🎓 What happens when years of professional experience become the foundation for meaningful academic research?

Simon Vrečar, a Business Owner and Consultant working across Italy and Slovenia, entered the PhD program with a question that had emerged from years of involvement in EU-funded projects: Why does formal stakeholder engagement so often fall short of genuine co-creation?

Through the program, Simon transformed this practical challenge into a structured doctoral research topic, exploring the relationships between stakeholder engagement, governance, leadership, and project success. His research journey demonstrates how experienced professionals can turn workplace observations into valuable contributions to both practice and academia.

AIPMO is proud to support doctoral researchers who are advancing knowledge while remaining closely connected to real-world organizational and project challenges.

🎓 Can a PhD transform curiosity into research that creates meaningful impact in project management?

For Joachim Krumpholz, Senior Manager at ZF Group in Germany, the PhD journey provided a structured path to explore the intersection of academic research and professional practice.

Through the program, he strengthened his analytical perspective on how project management knowledge is created, translated, and applied in real-world environments. His research also opened new opportunities to explore the role of AI in supporting research analysis.

His experience demonstrates how doctoral research can help professionals move beyond broad interests, develop rigorous research capabilities, and contribute valuable insights to both academia and industry.

At AIPMO, we are proud to support doctoral researchers who are advancing project management knowledge through impactful, evidence-based research.
