What happens when doctoral research challenges long-held assumptions about project success and public value?

Darko Nesterenko, an Infrastructure Specialist and Researcher based in Peru, joined the PhD program to deepen his understanding of the broader forces that shape outcomes in public infrastructure projects. Through the program, he explored how project management connects with governance, strategy, leadership, and the creation of long-term public value.

His doctoral journey encouraged him to question the assumption that successful project delivery automatically leads to sustainable outcomes. By examining the relationships between projectification, governance continuity, and benefit realization, he gained a deeper understanding of the systemic factors that influence the long-term success of public infrastructure initiatives.

Darko‘s experience demonstrates how doctoral research can help professionals move beyond traditional measures of project performance and develop a broader perspective on how projects contribute to lasting organizational and societal value. Through this journey, he strengthened his ability to analyze complex challenges and contribute insights that support more effective governance and sustainable development.

AIPMO is proud to support doctoral researchers who are exploring complex challenges and developing insights that advance both theory and practice.

If you are considering a PhD and would like to learn more about the program, join our upcoming PhD Information Session on June 2, 17:00 – 18:30 CET.

Dr. Reinhard Wagner and Dr. Robert Joslin will discuss:

• Benefits of a postgraduate degree
• How the program works
• Doctoral topic development
• Supervision and research direction
• Publication pathways
• How professionals can integrate doctoral research into their careers and organizations

What happens when doctoral research helps professionals develop a more focused and informed approach to complex project challenges?

Priya Sai Hansika Vanam (PMP)®, an Operations Supervisor based in Germany, found that the PhD program and discussions with professors from diverse backgrounds helped her refine her thinking and gain greater clarity in shaping her research direction. Through the program, she developed a more focused and research-driven approach to research while exploring contemporary project management challenges, particularly stakeholder engagement and the use of AI tools in NGO settings.

Her doctoral journey demonstrates how research can help professionals deepen their understanding of emerging challenges, strengthen analytical thinking, and contribute meaningful insights to both academic knowledge and professional practice.

AIPMO is proud to support doctoral researchers who are advancing knowledge while remaining closely connected to real-world organizational and project challenges.

If you are considering a PhD and would like to learn more about the program, join our upcoming PhD Information Session on June 2, 17:00 – 18:30 CET.
