Interviewer: Make sense. But I would expect the project manager also have the strategic outlook ?

Guenter Lasser: Sure our project managers are following the customer strategies. But their responsibility is the delivery in the defined time and quality. And normally with SAP projects from a certain size various companies are involved. From our experience it`s very difficult to have the inside and outside view at the same time. As well, different stakeholders are involved neither in delivery and strategy. And all our strategic consultants also have the project experience, so to understand the challenges of the daily project delivery.

Guenter Lasser: We saw in various projects, that during implementation phases the whole organization is very focused on the delivery and integration of the new system. That’s great and necessary. But the constant strategic outlook is also very important as we are facing fast changes in automotive retail. That’s why we created a service with very experienced strategic consultants to support our customers in this matter. One key successfactor is that these consultants are not active involved in the actual project. So they always keep the outside view.

Guenter Lasser: ProGo stands for Protect & Go. It`s our new framework to accelerate the successful go-live of proaxia vehicle Sales and Services (VSS). It`s a unique service offering which goes in line with SAP`s Active Global Support paid service and support offering in nowadays, called Safeguarding and Max Attention.

Interviewer: So we see different ways how a car can be bought and a need for more efficient processes at car dealers. What does that mean for a Dealer Management System, which can support our customers in these challenges?

Guenter Lasser: Today a Dealer management system must be able to map the entire customer journey from thinking about buying a new car until selling it as a used car or even scrapping it.

Actual in the market available Dealer Management Systems are possibly good at collecting data in the daily sales and aftersales process, but are not end-to-end, do not adapt the workflows and require workarounds when market and/or product changes occur. Many DMS are reaching the limit of what`s is possible, and any further tuning runs the risk of engine failure.

To survive in such a competitive environment as automotive retail, instant available realtime data about every step in the process are needed.

Interviewer: You are a real industry expert with 35 years experience in automotive retail. What are the biggest challenges our customer facing?

Guenter Lasser: Electric vehicles and different modes of mobility and trends like buying goods online and no longer instore. As well buying goods as a service change the whole sales and service process for a car dealer. We not anymore only buy cars, we also lease, rent and use them as a service. As well at the same time the service event as such is changing dramatically. The ability to service customer in real time from anywhere – from home, the office and traditionally form the retail facilities.

We also see that the expectations of the customers are changing. So the expectation today is that the service is happen at their location not anymore in the workshop, a good example is carglass.

As well electric cars are not as service intensive as combustion engines, which means for the same service revenue a car dealer needs to process much more cars.
