These specialized adhesive tags, designed for both visible deterrence and covert authentication, play a crucial role in safeguarding products across industries. This article delves into the 2 primary families of anti-counterfeit labels: those added directly to the product and those embedded within the product branded label.

Exploring the advantages and disadvantages of each, it navigates the intricate landscape of overt and covert security features. Additionally, it introduces Cryptoglyph technology as a powerful enhancement, which elevates the effectiveness of anti-counterfeit labels and fortifies brand protection.

Fake Whisky: How to Spot and Prevent Counterfeiting

Fake whisky doesn’t always come in an obviously counterfeit bottle. In many cases, the counterfeiter keeps the genuine glass, label, embossing, and other familiar details, refilling just the liquid, which gives the counterfeit an immediate advantage.

FPL: Changing the Workflow Without Changing the App

Until now, introducing a new authentication workflow usually meant releasing a new version of AV-Check. That worked well, but it also meant waiting for app store approval and asking users to update their phones.

FPL (Flow Processing Language) removes that dependency.

With FPL, the authentication sequence is defined on the server rather than inside the mobile application. A customer can, for example, start with a QR code, continue with OCR to read a lot number or expiry date, perform Cryptoglyph® authentication, and then decide what happens next based on the result. The same AV-Check application executes the new workflow automatically.

For customers, this means new products and new inspection procedures can often be deployed in minutes instead of waiting for the next iOS or Android release.

FPL also gives our partners much more freedom to tailor authentication workflows for individual brands without creating custom versions of the app. It is a small architectural change, but one that will make the AlpVision ecosystem considerably more flexible in the years ahead.

When Innovation Delivers Real Benefits

One of the most rewarding aspects of our work is seeing how our partners turn AlpVision technology into solutions that make a real difference for their customers.

A great example is Schreiner MediPharm, whose new pharmaceutical security seal recently received the FINAT Group Award for Innovation 2026. The seal combines several complementary security features, including tamper evidence and a hidden digital authentication element based on AlpVision’s Cryptoglyph® technology.

The authentication feature is printed directly into the transparent seal and remains invisible to the naked eye. A standard smartphone is all that is needed to verify its authenticity. If someone cuts the seal open and re-seals using tape, the digital feature can no longer be authenticated, making tampering immediately apparent.

For pharmaceutical companies, the benefits go well beyond product authentication. Inspectors, distributors and customs officers can perform quick field checks, while brand owners gain valuable information to help identify suspicious activity and better understand how products move through the supply chain.

Congratulations to the Schreiner MediPharm team on this well-deserved recognition. We are proud that our technology plays a part in helping partners develop solutions that bring practical value to the market.

Counterfeit Gold Coins: Common Types, Detection Methods, and Anti-Counterfeiting Solutions

A counterfeit gold coin is a coin that’s falsely presented as genuine, either by copying the design of an official mint-issued coin, altering an existing coin to increase its value, or selling a replica as if it were authentic. Modern forgers can imitate popular bullion coins, copy collectible designs, and use materials such as gold-plated tungsten to create fakes that look convincing to buyers, dealers, and even experienced collectors.
