Both hands on the goods, eyes on the aisle: new on our blog, we show when pick-by-voice pays off in the warehouse.
In picking, the bottleneck is rarely speed. It is the hand holding the device and the eyes moving to a display instead of the shelf. Voice puts both back on the goods.
Three thresholds show whether switching pays off: 40 or more picks per hour and operator, at least ten pickers who pick eight hours a day, and a man-to-goods process with cart picking rather than full pallets. Multi-order picking maps well. There is no fixed limit on item structure or warehouse layout.
The article lists eight questions to check that yourself, and three cases in which we advise against voice.
