“It’s just a phase...”
We’ve all heard this phrase again and again. But when it comes to sleep regressions — it’s actually true!

Sleep regressions often sound like something negative. Like your baby is going backward. But the truth is: it's a sign of progress!

Your little one is learning so much right now — walking, talking, understanding the world — that their sleep can temporarily take a hit.

-->Trouble falling asleep?
--> More night wakings than usual?
--> Suddenly an early riser?

What was your experience during a sleep regression?
Did your child suddenly stop sleeping through the night?
💬 Tell me in the comments — you're not alone!

It's been quiet from my side for a long time now. Not because I was not in the mood to post but because I had my focus on my own family and the families that I actively help and urgently need to get their sleep back.

On top of that my daughter needed a LOT of my attention as she went through a major development (or 3 haha) and was sick quite a few times in the past 2-3 months. One cold after the other with lots of coughing and a stomach bug on top of that. So yes… we had some sleepless nights the past few weeks 🧟‍♀️😅 You are not alone 😉

You've probably wondered if a child from a certified sleep expert is the perfect sleeper? How do we deal with developments, teething, sickness, potty training etc?

About all these topics I'll write in my next posts with the topic "my family and me" ❤. So keep your eyes open for the next post

🕑Daylight saving time🕒

This Sunday the time changes again, from 02:00 to 03:00. That means we get an hour less sleep 😱

There is also a plus side to this story as early risers will automatically wake up 1 hour later. Many parents therefore often look forward to this time change to summer time.

For many children, the time change can also be a bit more challenging, especially if they have to go to daycare, kindergarten or school at a certain time. Then suddenly this one hour is missing. It often takes a good week for many children to get used to the new time.

If you have the opportunity to adjust your daily rhythm a bit, I would recommend starting to shift it slowly.
From today, move everything 20 minutes earlier and start right away with the first nap. Adjust the meal times, additional naps and also the bed time by 20 minutes. Ideally, you wake up your child 20 minutes earlier every day. Do this every day and you will have reached the full hour on Sunday ☺

... After 4 weeks we didn't have any problems with the topic sleep anymore and we don't need to fear bedtime anymore because we know exactly what to do.

Karen always stood by our side with her tips and support, even on weekends. Without her support we would not have managed. Thank you so much!!

👶 This is False. When your child sleeps little during the day, they start their night overtired. This can lead to frequent waking, long awake times in the middle of the night and early rising.

How old is your child? And how much do they sleep at night?

Anywhere between 7 - 9 months most babies are ready to drop the third nap.
The challenge is balancing the reduction in daytime sleep, while keeping your baby rested enough that he/she doesn't become overtired. You want to avoid an overtired baby because being overtired can lead to frequent night waking, early morning wake ups and difficulties falling asleep.

How do you know your baby is ready? Here are some indicators:

➡️ Your baby is doing 2 good long naps, one in the morning and one in the early afternoon. Because of two prolonged naps, it seems too late into the afternoon to introduce a third nap. You might find yourself wondering “should I try another nap or just do an early bedtime?”
➡️ Your baby is still in a good mood in the afternoon and has no signs of being tired.
➡️ No matter what you try, the third nap is just being refused. All the tricks that normally work, don't work anymore.

It is totally normal that during this transition phase, some days your baby still needs 3 naps and other days only 2. This can take from a few days to a few weeks.

When you baby has transitioned to 2 naps, it might be necessary to move his/her bedtime a bit earlier to avoid over tiredness.
