Why Values?
I was always fascinated by values as I was so much interested in my career to understand behaviours and its effect on individuals life phases and conflicts. It is often underestimated (if speaking of transition) the importance of creating a balance in our value system in order to get targeted. If we phase change in our life, we develop startegies to find ways to get over this transition with a positive effect on our life. Values are our priorities, needs, things are the most important for our daily lives. They form our norms and play an important role in our own behaviour, also understanding others.
Clarifying your work values is, therefore, essential when you are in a career transition. They are both intrinsic and extrinsic. Intrinsic values have to do with the actual tasks involved in practicing a particular occupation or doing a job.
To identify which work values are important to you, you will use a self assessment tool called a work value inventory. It may sound complicated, but it is simply a list of values that you must rank by order of importance to you
Use the results to identify appropriate career choices by matching your work values to those involved with different occupations.
If you are not finding the type of jobs that meet your criteria, you may need to re-evaluate the values you have set for your job search and w**d out those that are not absolutely necessary. Also think about re-prioritizing your criteria or rethinking the goals you have set for yourself along your job search process.
Preparation of this kind is crucial to any successful job search strategy.
